Denver, CO. The Colorado Rockies will look to bring some sanity back to the starting rotation with the return of Jorge De La Rosa Thursday against the San Francisco Giants. Following Tommy John surgery, De La Rosa has had a slow recovery but will make the first step back to the team. Throughout his recovery there have been many set backs and frustration for Jorge. Initially the Rockies believed he may be back in the rotation in early July but his arm strength did not return and arm soreness slowed his come back.
With the young rotation as it currently stands, De La Rosa will bring some veteran leadership back to a tired and struggling rotation. With his return and Jhoulys Chacin throwing well the Rockies could be setting up their rotation for 2013. If Jeff Francis returns next year the Rockies will have an experienced rotation at the front of the starters with Drew Pomeranz and Christian Freidrich tying up the starting five. This bodes well with Tyler Chatwood battling for a starting spot as well. Many young arms in the Rockies system will make the team more competitive in years to come. Keep in mind another young arm in Juan Nicasio will also be in the mix for the starting rotation.
Although 2012 is a lost season and will mercifully come to an end in two weeks, there are some things to look forward to with the current Rockies team. Troy Tulowitzki is still not back with the club but should be back with the team at the end of the week and will pair well with Josh Rutledge. Carlos Gonzalez has been struggling with no protection behind him in the lineup but has hit the 20/20 club with home runs and stolen bases for three years in a row. He will just continue to get better next year and will be an all star for many years.
Enjoy the final home stand here in Denver as the leaves turn and fall is upon us. Cheer for the Giants as the representative team from the NL West in the playoffs. Time to get ready for the Nuggets and continue to cheer for the Broncos as ski season approaches.
