Ivan "Pudge" Rodriguez recently returned to Dallas after spending a week and a half with the Texas Rangers in Arizona. The 14-time MLB All-Star catcher was hired by the Rangers in February to be a special assistant to the general manager. Before a PwC-SMU Athletic Forum Monday at the Hilton Anatole, Rodriguez spoke with reporters about what he saw from the team during his spring training visit. The hottest topic: What the Rangers looks like without Josh Hamilton, who signed a five-year, 125 million deal with the Los Angeles Angels in December. "He's going to be missed, to be honest with you," Rodriguez said. "But at the same time, we got to play. We got great talent, a great team, a great group of guys. I wish him the best because he's a good kid and he's a great, great player. "But we're pretty good. We got some good outfielders also there. Not the power that he brings to the team but if those guys get on base for the big guys we&#...

The beauty of the Vernon Wells trade

We are all a fan of some team.  Even the self-proclaimed objective journalists grew up rooting for someone.  It’s simple human nature.  I’m an Angels fan, and as such I don’t have a great deal of love for the Yankees.  So it would make sense that I love the Vernon Wells trade.  It removes an unproductive player from my favorite team and inserts him into the lineup...

The Texas Rangers are having trade discussions with other teams about outfielder Julio Bourbon, according to T.R. Sullivan of MLB.com. The Rangers are set to enter the regular season using Leonys Martin and Craig Gentry to platoon in center field. This leaves no room for Bourbon, who is out of options and is expected to get claimed on waivers before being eligible to...

Remembering the best moments of the Vernon Wells era

Vernon Wells is gone but he won't be forgotten, though most of us probably want to. In the interest of fairness to a player who was universally maligned from almost the exact second he was acquired, let's take an exhaustive look at the highlights of his Angel career: June 28th, 2011 against the Nationals - Vernon went 4-for-5 with a homer, a double, three runs scored...

Yankees complete trade for Vernon Wells

Report: Yankees in Talks to Trade for Angels Vernon Wells

Desperate times calls for desperate measures, and make no mistakes about it, this is a move of desperation by the New York Yankees. The Bronx Bombers are...

Rangers depending on Yu, other returning pitchers

For the Texas Rangers, the focus is on who stayed in town, rather than who left. At least, that's the approach they're trying to take. There have been some big changes in the Texas lineup since not winning a game last October, particularly the departure of five-time All-Star and former AL MVP Josh Hamilton, now with the AL West rival Los Angeles Angels. Also gone are Michael...

A's chase another division title

The Oakland Athletics know that few will give them a chance to repeat in a division featuring sluggers Albert Pujols, Josh Hamilton and Mike Trout making up a loaded lineup for the Los Angeles Angels. Even with almost the same A's roster that pulled off an improbable late-season rally to stun the Texas Rangers on the season's final day last fall. No problem. They're...
