A piece of memorabilia that once was lost has now been found. Last month, Jim Thome hit his 607th career home run against the Twins at Target Field when he was still with the Phillies. The ball appeared to land in one of the flower pots above the wall in right-center field and was not recovered until the following day. Now, it is in Twins manager Ron Gardenhire’s possession. Thome has been collecting most of his home run balls since he hit No. 500, so naturally he would like it back. It sounds like he’s going to have to pay. “He’s got to do something to get this ball. I know that,” Gardenhire said according to the Pioneer Press. “He hurt our feelings. So if he wants the ball back, Jim, make my day. Thrill me. I’m not talking about on the field. I want to see something that helps one of our favorite charities.” Gardenhire is obviously having a little fun with his former player, but making a charitable donation is the least Thome could do. In order to get the ball back, the Twins ha...

Gardenhire holding Thome's HR ball

The last time Jim Thome was at Target Field, the slugger hit his 607th career homer into the flower bed in right-center field while he was playing with the Phillies. It took the Twins two days to find the ball buried underneath the flowers and the Phillies had left town by then. So Twins manager Ron Gardenhire has it enclosed in a clear case in his office and he had a playful message...

Twins OF Ben Revere's amazing diving catch

Not that the Minnesota Twins needed it on Monday night given the team walloped the Baltimore Orioles, slapping the ball all over Target Field as the team notched 20 hits in a 19-7 victory, but right fielder Ben Revere put on an impressive display of defense in the bottom of the 1st inning when he [...]

Hardy finally healthy with Baltimore

MINNEAPOLIS Shortstop J.J. Hardy was a member of the Minnesota Twins team that opened Target Field by winning the American League Central in the ballpark's inaugural season. Two years later, he has a chance to again be a key contributor on a playoff team, this time with the surprising Baltimore Orioles. Through Tuesday's game against his former Minnesota squad, Hardy and...

Orioles 2, Twins 1

Adam Jones hit a two-run homer in the first inning against Francisco Liriano and the Baltimore Orioles hung on to beat the Minnesota Twins 2-1 on Wednesday night. Josh Willingham's home run in the fourth was all Minnesota could manage against Tommy Hunter (4-4), who returned to Baltimore's stumbling rotation with a solid performance that lasted one out into the eighth inning...

Orioles' Hammel expected to miss a month with knee injury

Each week since the team's hot start this spring, analysts have talked about how whatever lay before the Baltimore Orioles was the next challenge. Sunday, the Orioles were hit with arguably their biggest challenge of the season. Right-hander Jason Hammel will miss about four weeks following Monday's scheduled arthroscopic surgery on his ailing right knee. Hammel has battled...

Report: Red Sox Believed to Be Among Teams Interested in Francisco Liriano

Francisco Liriano got the attention of the baseball world with his latest start, and the Red Sox may be among the teams that are interested in the Minnesota Twins pitcher. The left-hander turned in one of the best starts of his career on Friday night when he struck out 15 in a loss to the Oakland A's. Unsurprisingly, interest in Liriano is starting to increase on the heels of...

Joe Mauer makes amazing diving catch vs. Orioles (Video)

Mauer, bullpen lift Twins over Orioles

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) -- Joe Mauer had three hits and an RBI and the Minnesota Twins bullpen pitched 4 2-3 innings of scoreless relief in a 6-4 victory over the Baltimore Orioles on Tuesday night. Mauer had two singles, a double and a walk to improve his batting average to .333, second in the AL behind the Angels' Mike Trout. Ryan Doumit added two hits and two RBIs for the Twins...

Fielding struggles hold back Dozier's progress

MINNEAPOLIS After coming onto the scene strongly during his first month in the majors, Minnesota Twins shortstop Brian Dozier has come back to reality a bit. The dazzling plays at shortstop he made in May have turned into misplays of routine grounders in July. His early tear at the plate -- he batted .279 with eight RBI and a pair of homers in his first 14 games -- has slowed down...

Twins 6, Orioles 4

With each hard-hit single the opposite way, with every double to the gap, with every highlight-reel defensive play behind the plate, Joe Mauer pushes the nightmare of last season further and further behind him. The Minnesota Twins All-Star is getting cheered again by his home fans. He's in the race for the American League batting title again. And, most tellingly, he's making...

Orioles-Twins Preview

It's been nearly 11 months since the last time the Baltimore Orioles visited Minnesota, and that's probably just fine with the Twins. Jim Thome's final game in a Twins uniform was the same day as the Orioles' last visit, but he's made frequent trips back to haunt Minnesota. Losers of 10 of 14 overall, Thome and the Orioles look to get well Monday night when...

Mascot Takes a Nasty Spill on ATV

The Norfolk Tides mascot, RipTide took a pretty hard spill on his ATV on Sunday night as the Tides played host to the Lehigh Valley Iron Pigs.  (The Tides are the triple-A affiliate of the Baltimore Orioles)  RipTide tried to make a quick powerslide on his ATV in right field, but the laws of physics did not agree with his attempt and it sent him flying face first into the dirt...

Reggie Jackson May Want to Think Twice Before Attempting to Be Hall of Fame Authority

Reggie Jackson made waves recently when he declared that several Hall of Famers -- including NESN's own Jim Rice -- were not worthy of Cooperstown, in his estimation. Mr. October, however, might not be the most qualified voice to speak on that subject, even though he holds an all-time major league record. Unfortunately for him, it's the dubious mark of most strikeouts by...
