The last thing the Red Sox need is for a big hitter to be injured, but alas, David Ross is going to need a seven-day stint on the disabled list for a concussion. Ryan Lavarnway has been called up to the 25-man roster from Triple-A Pawtucket.
Ross said that foul balls to the face mask off of Toronto’s Colby Rasmus and Emilio Bonifacio in Saturday’s win were the cause of his concussion. He experienced some concussion symptoms that night. Ross has had one other concussion in his career from being run over by former Red Sock Mike Cameron in 2007, though Cameron was on the San Diego Padres at the time. Because catchers risk getting hit in the head more than most other positions, it’s important for him to be on the DL.
“He felt those symptoms come on late last night, and given his position we can’t put him at risk with any additional foul balls or foul-tips to the mask,” Red Sox manager John Farrell said after Sunda...
