Kansas City Royals second baseman Chris Getz is expected to miss the rest of the season with a broken left thumb. Getz was injured in the fifth inning Friday night when he tried to bunt against the Chicago White Sox. The pitch hit his hand and the ball went foul. Getz began the night batting .280 with no homers and 17 RBIs. He is scheduled to have surgery on his thumb Saturday. After their 4-2 victory over Chicago, the Royals recalled second baseman Johnny Giavotella from Triple-A Omaha, where he was hitting .323 with 10 home runs and 71 RBIs. Giavotella batted .217 in 69 at-bats earlier this season with the Royals. Kansas City manager Ned Yost said Giavotella would get the majority of playing time at second base with Getz out.

A Sneak Peek at the Royals 2013 Rotation

Starting pitching is the name of the game. As the season winds down into another losing campaign, the Royals have one clear problem to address in the offseason—starting pitching. Fielding a rotation with a record of 36-50 and an ERA of 5.22 (as of August 16th), the Royals’ rotation has effectively decimated their chances of competing in a weak AL Central. Uncompetitive and unable...

Royals keep auditioning for No. 3 hitter

KANSAS CITY, MO - The open auditions for the Royals' No. 3-hole hitter march on. Next up: Alex Gordon. Gordon, entrenched in the leadoff spot where he flourished the past two months, now will get a serious look in the three spot. We knew Gordy wasnt a prototypical leadoff hitter, but hes a guy who has high on-base (percentage) and puts the ball in play, Yost said. But we also...

Royals' Gordon bumped from leadoff to third in order

Alex Gordon has thrived as the Kansas City Royals' leadoff hitter, but for the remainder of the season he will be hitting third. Gordon was moved to the third slot in the order Thursday against the Athletics, while Jarrod Dyson batted first. Gordon went 0-for-4 and struck out in the 3-0 loss to the A's. "We felt the time was right to go ahead and put Alex in that...

Here they go again

The kings of irrelevant success are at it early in 2012. After putting together winning Septembers in three of the last four seasons, your 2012 Kansas City Royals have started the month of August at 10-6, perhaps starting their annual trek up the standings one month ahead of time. Still trailing their division leader by 13 games, this recent hot streak means little even if it’s...

It’s broke, fix it

The Kansas City Royals, coming off wins in ten of their last fifteen games with both great starting pitching and timely productive hitting from the offense, saw a change in the batting order.  Manager Ned Yost seemed to want to change it up in the three spot in the order, which has been a black hole for Royals hitters this season. The third spot in the batting order is supposed...

Prime Nine: Kansas City Royals

The Kansas City Royals are a great example of how far a great farm system can take you and also the limitations of that farm system. The lineup is chalk full of exciting young players and there are more on the way. Unfortunately, the mound hasn’t seen the same level of success, so the team is still struggling overall. Still, if you want to watch an exciting young team...

Le Fondre earns Royals late point

Adam Le Fondre scored a last-minute penalty to earn Reading a 1-1 draw against Stoke on the opening day of the Barclays Premier League season. The Royals looked set to be taught a harsh lesson in the realities of top-flight football after Adam Federici's humiliating howler gifted Michael Kightly a debut goal and Dean Whitehead avoided what appeared a certain red card. But new...

A's use long ball to top Royals

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) -- Coco Crisp and Yoenis Cespedes homered, and Dan Straily picked up his first major league victory as the Oakland Athletics beat the Kansas City Royals 3-0 on Thursday night. Crisp, who played for the Royals in 2009, was 2 for 27 this season against Kansas City before the home run. Crisp drilled a 2-0 pitch from Luke Hochevar deep to right. The ball hit high...
