The Kansas City Royals signed left-handed reliever Jose Mijares to a one-year contract Wednesday.
The deal is worth $925,000 for Mijares, who has spent the past four seasons with the Minnesota Twins.
The Royals plan to use Mijares as a situational lefty out of the bullpen.
The 27-year-old Mijares was 0-2 with a 4.59 ERA in 58 appearances last season. His batting average against has risen in each season, with a high of .275 in 2011.
