The Kansas City Royals announced Friday they claimed pitcher Chris Volstad on outright waivers from the Chicago Cubs. Volstad, 26, was added to the Royals active 40-man roster. Volstad started 21 games for the Cubs this season, going 3-12 with a 6.31 ERA. He had 61 strikeouts in 111 1/3 innings. Volstad has a career 4.87 ERA in 124 appearances since beginning his major-league career with the then-Florida Marlins in 2005.
