According to Bill Chastain, the Royals have asked the Rays what it would take to land James Shields in a trade. The answer was “a lot”… The Royals are interested in [James] Shields, but to get him, the Rays want closer Joakim Soria, top position prospect Wil Myers and shortstop/second baseman prospect Christian Colon in return We are still waiting to hear if the Royals have been able to get their jaws up off the floor. Joakim Soria, a closer, is a two-time All-Star with at least 28 saves each of the last four seasons. His career ERA/FIP is 2.40/2.90. He has two years and $14.75 million remaining on his contract. There is also an option for 2014 at $8.75 million. Wil Myers is a former catcher that played (...)Read the rest of Royals Want Shields, But The Rays Want The Farm (87 words) © The Professor for Rays Index, 2011. | Permalink | No comment | Add to del.icio.us Post tags:

Rays Lose Former Top Prospect In Rule 5 Draft

The Rays did not make any selections in today’s Rule 5 draft. They did lose two minor leaguers in the minor league portion of the draft. Catcher Gerardo Olivares was taken by the Red Sox in the triple-A portion of the draft. And Matt Sweeney was selected by the Orioles in the double-A portion of the draft. Sweeney is a bit of a loss for the Rays, but more because he has failed...

Are The Rays And Nationals Getting Closer To A Deal For BJ Upton?

On the surface it would look like the Washington Nationals and Tampa Bay Rays are in the same spot as they were back in July. That is, the Nationals want BJ Upton, but are firm in what they are willing to give up. And the Rays are willing to give up Upton, but they are firm in what they want for him (shortstop Ian Desmond). But Adam Kilgore of the Washington Post wonders if the game...

Candid Cameron: Don't play poker with Dayton

KANSAS CITY - Dayton Moore did not arrive at baseball's winter meetings by falling off a turnip truck. In case you're not familiar with that good ol' country phrase, perhaps I should put it in a crisper, clearer sentence. Moore is no fool. Yes, he knows that Royals fans are excited about the coming season, and that radio chat shows back in Kansas City are buzzing about...

Royals Rumors: Needs, Guillen, Lowe

Yesterday the Royals were linked to Oakland's Gio Gonzalez and free agent Carlos Guillen, and it was also suggested they'd listen on relievers Joakim Soria and Greg Holland.  The latest on the team: The Royals seek a right-handed alternative to play third base and give Mike Moustakas an occasional break, GM Dayton Moore told Bob Dutton of the Kansas City Star....

Friedman Stays in Tampa Bay

Andrew Friedman once again turned down an offer to leave Tampa Bay for a job in a more lucrative market. I read quite often that some team wants Joe Maddon or Friedman, with the thought that wouldn’t they want a job with more resources to build a team. In their current positions, however, both get hailed as miracle workers. No one really expects them to win. The Tampa Bay...

Pirates acquire infielder Navarro from KC

The Pirates made a trade late on Wednesday to acquire infielder Yamaico Navarro from the Royals in exchange for Minor Leaguers Brooks Pounders and Diego Goris.

Bucs nab Navarro from Kansas City

The Pittsburgh Pirates acquired infielder Yamaico Navarro from the Kansas City Royals on Wednesday for a pair of minor leaguers.

Pirates acquire Yamaico Navarro from Royals for Brooks Pounders

When the news broke this afternoon that the Pirates were no longer in on Wilson Betemit and that they'd made their roster moves to accomodate Erik Bedard and Nate McLouth without releasing Ross Ohlendorf, my gut feeling was that it was a sign that there was another move in the offing. It turns out that was a good instinct: the Pirates traded Brooks Pounders and Diego Goris tonight...
