According to Adam Rubin of ESPN New York, the Mets have no intention of non-tendering Ike Davis based on what team insiders have told him. Rubin adds that team insiders appear satisfied that Davis will not be cost prohibitive in 2014 in a way that would force them to cut him loose. That may be true, but I would still be very surprised Ike Davis is still a Met in 2014. If ever there was a perfect condition for a player desperately needing a change of scenery, Ike Davis is it. Obviously, the Mets will tender him and hope to get something for him in a trade, rather than non-tendering him and allowing him to become a free agent. The Mets could also settle on a figure agreeable with Ike and avoid arbitration altogether. I really hate the first base situation as it stands right now. We have no clear cut solutions and it agonizes me to think 2014 is going to be yet another evaluation year for the position.
