Philadelphia Phillies prospect Darrin Ruf came into Spring Training with a job to lose. After having a monster season last year at Double A Reading, the slugger just needed to have a decent spring to make the team. He didn’t. After hitting a walk off homerun to give the Phillies a win against the Atlanta Braves at Bright House Field, Ruf was called into manager Charlie Manuel’s office and was given the news that he was being sent to minor league camp. Ruf will start the season at Triple A Lehigh Valley and hopes to once again prove that he should be given a chance to play for the big league team. Time is running out for Ruf. The late bloomer will be 27 in August. If he does not show he is ready to be a starter soon, he will become nothing more than a projected extra outfielder or trade bait for another team willing to take a chance on him. The Phillies haven’t given up yet though. Charlie Manuel was asked about Ruf’s future. The Phillies manager said, “I’ll be surprised if he doesn’t show
