We heard a couple weeks back that Eric Chavez does intend to play next season and prefers the Yankees. The latest is that not only are the Yankees interested in bringing him back, but a few West Coast teams have interest too, specifically the Oakland Athletics, according to Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle.
Chavez, who turns 34-years-old this week, played in just 58 games with the Yankees after sitting out nearly three months with a foot injury. However, it hasn’t scared a lot of teams off as they view it as a freak thing, Slusser reports.
Chavez earned a base salary of $1.5 million last season with the opportunity to earn $4 million more in incentives. For that money the Yankees got a .320 OBP and a .676 OPS over 175 plate appearances. He didn’t exactly prove he could stay healthy so a raise is unlikely.
