All eyes have been on Aroldis Chapman and his dominance through 26 scoreless innings. Unfortunately the 100+MPH arm has people completely overlooking the Oakland A’s reliever’s impressive streak of 23.1 scoreless, which ended last night due to a RBI Morneau double. Cook’s ERA now sits at .75. Billy Beane acquired Cook as a part of the blockbuster trade sending Trevor Cahill to the Diamondbacks; and so far, the A’s have seen the benefits with both Cook and starter Jarrod Parker (I’d expect nothing less from the Moneyball Genie). During Cook’s streak he had 1 win, 10 holds, 21 strikeouts and was an anchor for the A’s in the middle innings.  Cook also had a phenomenal streak of six straight consecutive holds from April 13-April 27. The 6-2 righty did have a little trouble on his command giving up 12 walks in his 21 appearances, but you can’t complain that much considering he gave up 0 runs. Although the streak had to come to an end at some point, it couldn’t have come at a worse time. This was Cook’s first save opportunity and it would have been a huge momentum swing for the young reliever flourishing in a shaky bullpen featuring Grant Balfour’s inconsistency as a set up man. With Cook’s blown save it looks like all signs point to Brian Fuentes as the closer, but Cook will definitely see more opportunities as the season continues, and could work his way up to set-up man in the 8th especially if Balfour’s ERA surpasses 4. Regardless of what inning Cook pitches expect him to retain his authority on the mound, and be at the top of the leaderboard in Holds by All-Star break. -Schotz
