Ryan Dempster’s performance last night against the New York Yankees only fueled the argument for fans doubting that he can be a dominant pitcher in the American League.  Dempster gave up nine hits and eight runs (two homers) in six innings of work last night in the Bronx. Dempster was acquired by the Texas Rangers on July 31st with only minutes remaining before MLB’s trade deadline. The two-time All-Star was having a strong season with the Chicago Cubs, but the switch to the AL has suddenly changed all of that.  Granted, in Dempster’s three starts since joining the AL, he has faced the Los Angeles Angels, Boston Red Sox, and New York Yankees.  However, those are the kind of lineups a starting pitcher can expect to face start after start in the heavy hitting AL. Dempster currently has an 8.31 ERA, giving up 24 hits, and 16 earned runs in the 17.1 innings pitched this month.   His total ERA through 19 starts this season is still a respectable 3.12, with 99 strikeouts, and a 1.14 WHIP....

Texas Picther Ryan Dempster Gets Hammered By Yankees

Ryan Dempster didn’t want to have an outing like the one the New York Yankees handed him last night. Dempster gave up 9 hits and 8 runs as both the Yankees and the Texas Rangers were trying to get their 68th win. The Yankees would take this game 8-2 and the Rangers will have to look for their 68th win tonight to tie the Yankees at 68-47 on the season. Dempster pitched for 6 innings...

MLB ready for next "can't miss" rookie?

You might be thinking to yourself that the name "Jurickson Profar" rings a bell. It should. Last month, during the lead up to the MLB trade deadline, the Texas Rangers were looking at a number of candidates to strengthen their team for another World Series push. But Texas held up from making any blockbuster deals because the player ever team wanted in return from the...

The Quantity and Quality of Napoli’s Contact

Mike Napoli was, at least at the time, an under-discussed portion of not only one of the worst trades of recent times, but also the puzzling follow-up trade in which the Jays sent Napoli to the Rangers for reliever Frank Francisco. Even given that at the time Napoli was not projected to be the monster he turned to be in 2011, that seems really weird given that his hitting style seemed...

Fantasy Baseball Call Up Report: Jurickson Profar

Prospect watch: Jurickson Profar could be Rangers’ next call-up bit.ly/Nypbon — Sporting News (@sportingnews) August 14, 2012   Mike Olt has primarily sat on the bench for the Rangers so a...

Profar not far away from majors

It appears it's not a question of if Jurickson Profar gets called up this season, but when. Both Texas Rangers club president Nolan Ryan and general manager Jon Daniels said the possibility exists that the 19-year-old shortstop, who is currently considered the second-best prospect in all of baseball by Baseball America, will be called up before Sept. 1. "It's a consideration...

Two Hamilton home runs aren’t enough

For the second night in a row, Rangers pitchers did their job while the offense floundered.  It’s so frustrating to watch this team.  I know they’re leading the AL West and have the second best record in the AL.  They still look good enough to make October, but if they keep playing like this, they won’t make it through October. Rangers fans were pretty stoked this afternoon...

Rangers-Yankees Preview

While the short-term goal for Ryan Dempster is to continue finding a comfort zone with the Texas Rangers, the bigger picture is helping his team hold off the New York Yankees for the best record in the AL as the division leaders meet in the Bronx on Monday to start a crucial four-game series. Both the Rangers (67-46) and Yankees (67-47) have comfortable cushions atop their respective...

Yankees 8, Rangers 2

Nick Swisher hit a grand slam off Ryan Dempster and drove in five runs, Derek Lowe closed with four shutout innings in his Yankees debut and New York beat the Texas Rangers 8-2 Monday night. David Phelps, starting in place of injured ace CC Sabathia, picked off two runners and pitched a career-high five innings for the win. In the opener of a four-game series between the teams...

Cubs' offense goes south during 1-11 stretch

There are new faces all over Wrigley Field, but the results are starting to have an old, familiar look. And that's not good. The Chicago Cubs fell 3-0 to the Cincinnati Reds on Sunday. And while many observers felt pitching would be a problem after the trades of Ryan Dempster and Paul Maholm and the elbow injury to Matt Garza, it's the hitting that's been the biggest...
