Seems fitting, no? According to many reports, including MLB.com's Todd Zolecki, Ryan Howard is done for the season with a broken toe. It seems he broke it by accidentally dropped his on-deck circle lead pipe on it. Darin Ruf will start at first base for the Phillies tonight in Miami.

Playoff Elimination: Check; Howard Injury to End Season: Check.

Let us see where we are so far: - The Phillies have been eliminated from the playoffs. - Ryan Howard dropped a warm-up bat on his toe and broke it, ending his season. That makes 2 straight seasons that will end with...

For the Phillies, it’s all about 2013 now

The Philadelphia Phillies are winding toward the conclusion of this largely disappointing season. In a couple of games, maybe even 1, the Phillies will be eliminated from postseason play for the first time since 2006. It was a good run. But is it over? That is one of several questions facing Phillies brass as they move toward next season. The Phillies will deem this offseason as...

Philadelphia Phillies storyline: FA possibilities

The empty hot corner will probably belong to someone other than Chase Utley for the Philadelphia Phillies in April. Who would be better than Freddy Galvis? TAL’S HANDY CAPS   WELCOME, NEWCOMERS: I will publish after every battle that is not washed out.  I will have many summer-long highlights of puzzle pieces, especially important after drubbings and defeats. If you were directed...

It’s official, the Phillies are out of the race

The Phillies playoff run is officially over after losing to the Marlins 2-1 last night. It was another “walk-off” loss for the Phillies their 12th this season, personifying the season. No hitting and poor relief pitching ,a formula in many of the Phillies losses and what needs to be addressed in the off-season. We all new it was coming but I have to admit it still hurts. From...

Bryce Harper loves to rake against Philadelphia

Another evening, another Bryce Harper first inning home run, another Nationals win over the Phillies. Last night’s victim was Tyler Cloyd. It was Harper’s 21st home run of his rookie year. If this season went on a little longer, Harper would put up some eye-popping numbers. The bomb was his 94th run scored on the season. Remember, the guy didn’t come up until a month into...

Philadelphia Phillies: 2012 ERA for the NL East at game 156

Tyler Cloyd of the Philadelphia Phillies is their newest rotation member.  How do other recent additions in the NL East match up with him?  The Apocalyptic Horsemen Stats are in my recent coverage linked below. TAL’S HANDY STATS   WELCOME, NEWCOMERS: I am alternating a game-day 2012 ERA For The NL East and a 2012 ERA For The MLB 5. See link section below. In each publication...

Marlins go for another win against Philadelphia

The Philadelphia Phillies began the season believing it could be like each of the previous five, with an NL East title and a chance to win the World Series. For the first time in six years, though, they won't even have the opportunity to finish as champions. A day after being eliminated from postseason contention, the slumping Phillies face a Miami Marlins team on Saturday...

Phillies' Hamels gets 17th victory

MIAMI -- Cole Hamels added to his season-high win total with a strong outing Sunday. His manager, Charlie Manuel, thinks the three-time All-Star can be even better. "I'm still looking for him to get one of these big years, like a 20 to 24-game winning season," Manuel said. "I think he's capable of doing that." Hamels (17-6) pitched seven strong innings...

Phillies, Halladay pick up win over Marlins

MIAMI -- After a rough start, Roy Halladay finished his final outing of the season on a positive note. Halladay (11-8) allowed four runs, three in the first inning, in five innings to help the Philadelphia Phillies beat the Miami Marlins 9-5 Saturday. "The first inning was obviously pretty sloppy," Halladay said. "I felt like after that it got better, we scored...

Hamels Earns 17th Victory of Season; Phils Win, 4-1.

Final: Phillies 4, Marlins 1. WP: Cole Hamels (17-6, 3.05 ERA) LP: Nathan Eovaldi (4-13, 4.30 ERA) SV: Jonathan Papelbon (38) Most of the Phillies' scoring today came right in the top of the first inning.  After Jimmy Rollins walked and Juan Pierre singled to center field, Chase Utley hit a sacrifice fly- RBI for the first run of the game.  Carlos Ruiz followed with a RBI...

With Five Games Remaining, Phillies Eliminated From Postseason Play.

The Phillies were officially eliminated from October playoff baseball last night, as they arrived to their tragic number of 0.  Here's how the rest of the season will pan out: Remaining Schedule: Phillies at Marlins   Saturday, September 29: Roy Halladay (10-8, 4.40 ERA) vs. Ricky Nolasco (12-12, 4.35 ERA) Sunday, September 30: Cole Hamels (16-6, 3.11 ERA) vs. Nathan Eovaldi...

Phils Drop Third Straightl; Lose, 2-1.

Final: Phillies 1, Marlins 2. WP: Steve Cishek (5-2, 2.77 ERA)  LP: Josh Lindblom (3-4, 3.34 ERA) A September game consisting of two non-contending teams definitely will draw minimal interest from the media and the respective city's fans.  Both teams tonight, with nothing to play far, hardly brought anything to the table. The Phillies were trailing 1-0 heading into the...
