Nolan Ryan says he is still discussing with Texas Rangers ownership his role as the team's chief executive officer. Ryan issued a statement Sunday that he has met in person with team co-chairmen Ray Davis and Bob Simpson and that the ''conversations have been productive.'' Ryan says they agreed that ''these discussions will continue as we go forward.'' Speculation about Ryan's role and future with the Rangers has been growing since some seemingly routine promotions nine days earlier. Ryan had remained quiet publicly during that span. Team ownership announced March 1 that general manager Jon Daniels and chief operating officer Rick George had been promoted and had new presidential titles. Ryan had been president and CEO.

Ryan: Discussions with owners will continue

More than a week after the Texas Rangers went public with the promotions of Jon Daniels and Rick George, team CEO Nolan Ryan has made a public statement. The club promoted Daniels to president of baseball operations and George to president of business operations. Ryan had been the team's president but is now solely the CEO. Ryan hasn't spoken publicly since the move but...

Rangers Injury News: Matt Harrison scratched

The Texas Rangers are not in a position where they can afford anymore injuries to their pitching staff.  The club has already seen Martin Perez break his arm and is dealing with Colby Lewis' injury.  They've been linked to trade rumors almost out of necessity for another starter.  Now, they have Matt Harrison missing a start. According to the Rangers executive VP...

Matt Harrison scratched with inflamed toe

PEORIA, Ariz. (AP) -- Texas starter Matt Harrison was scratched because of an inflamed toe on his left foot, missing a Rangers' split squad's 5-2 win over the San Diego Padres on Saturday. Neil Ramirez and Tanner Scheppers both pitched scoreless innings, starting a nine-pitcher six-hitter. Texas first baseman Mitch Moreland sat out with a tight right quadriceps and is day...

Gentry and Baker lead Rangers over Indians

GOODYEAR, Ariz. (AP) -- Craig Gentry knows he is not a power hitter. Still, he's shown he can handle good pitches to hit. Gentry hit a two-run homer off Brett Myers to pace the Texas Rangers to a 7-6 win over the Cleveland Indians. Gentry added a single and scored another run. Jeff Baker, a non-roster invitee for Texas, hit an RBI double and single in his first two at-bats...

Player Profile #38: Adrian Beltre | 3B | TEX

Adrian Beltre has 15 major league seasons under his belt, and in all but nine or 10 of them has he been more than a marginal fantasy option, someone that probably deserves a starting job in most fantasy leagues but who could certainly be replaced by a hitter on a hot streak. That’s sort of [...]

Player Profile #39: Ian Kinsler | 2B | TEX

It used to be that Ian Kinsler was a major injury risk. After all, in his first five seasons he only once topped 130 games (144 in 2009). That year he had a season for the ages, slugging 31 homers, stealing 31 bases, and scoring 101 runs with 86 RBI. OK, so he batted just [...]

Rangers 7, Indians 6

Jeff Baker, a non-roster invitee for Texas, hit an RBI double and single in his first two at-bats, making it eight straight...

Snyder homers as A's top Rangers' split squad

SURPRISE, Ariz. (AP) -- Pitching into trouble was less concern for Texas Rangers right-hander Nick Tepesch than his ability to escape the jam. Tepesch gave up one run, three hits and two walks in three innings Saturday as a Rangers' split squad beat the Oakland Athletics 4-3. All but a single came in the third inning. "I felt like I didn't have my best stuff but I...
