There was speculation that the Giants might soon be removing the mightily struggling Ryan Vogelsong from the rotation. They’ll have to do that anyway now, and it’ll be after what was easily his best outing of the season.
The Giants are reporting that Vogelsong suffered a fractured bone in his right pitching hand after being hit by a pitch during an at-bat in the fifth inning of Monday’s win over the Nationals. Until that moment, he pitched five shutout innings with two strikeouts (he also got credited his second win of the season).
No official word yet from the Giants as to what bone is broken or how long he’ll be out (typically between four-to-eight weeks). But, for whatever it’s worth, here’s his wifey with a scoop:
