Found July 26, 2013 on Padres Public:
One of the topics I remember former Padres CEO Tom Garfinkel talk about most was the importance of fans having a good ballpark experience on days our Padres don’t win. This goal became evident in, among other improvements, the restaurants and events he and his team brought to the ballpark. But there’s another less discussed, at least less discussed by team by team executives, aspect of a game experience that makes watching losing baseball at the park an excruciating ordeal. Sharing the stands with lots of loud fans of opposing teams is absolutely awful. This is an issue somewhat unique to San Diego as it’s a great place to visit and live. Transplants and visitors bring team allegiances from other cities with them. It’s those visitors and transplants that flood Giants, Dodgers, Cubs, and other games and often turn attending a losing Padres game from a disappointing but fun experience into emotionally charged challenge to our honor as San Diegans. Ron Fowler refreshingly characteriz...

Luke Gregerson garnering a lot of interest

It doesn't look like Luke Gregerson will be a member of the San Diego Padres after the deadline. As the trade deadline approaches, teams are becoming more and more interested in the 29-year old right-hander. According to Jayson Stark of ESPN, the Phillies and Padres have "talked a lot" about a deal that would send Gregerson and an outfielder to the Phillies for...

Padres' Roundup: Kyle Blanks setback; Cory Luebke & Joe Wieland done

Padres' first baseman/outfielder Kyle Blanks is eligible to come off the 15-day disabled list this Saturday, but according to Corey Brock of MLB.com, he will not. And to add to San Diego's woes, relievers Cory Luebke and Joe Wieland probably won’t pitch for the Padres during the 2013 season also according to Corey Brock of MLB.com. Blanks, 26, who landed on the DL...

Padres and Pints: Episode 16 with the San Diego Chicken

When creating a Mount Rushmore for the Padres, coming up with a list of names is an easy task for me: Tony Gwynn, Trevor Hoffman, Randy Jones and the one and only San Diego Chicken. Based on their body of work and what they have done for the city of San Diego, it’s a no-brainer for me every time. Ted Giannoulas, aka The San Diego Chicken,  has been making fans laugh for 39 years...

Slump Busted?

It wasn’t that long ago that Padres fans were staring at their televisions and wondering “what on Earth has happened to Chase Headley?” Because, as you’ll recall, the 2nd half of 2012 Chase Headley was a man on fire. He stormed to win the the RBI title. He increased his power numbers by a factor of 3 (8 HRs in the first half of 2012; 23 in the 2nd half). Fans were ready to...

D-backs overpowered by Padres in blowout loss

PHOENIX (AP) -- Andrew Cashner threw six solid innings and hit his first career home run to help lead the Padres to a 12-3 victory over the Diamondbacks on Saturday night. Chris Denorfia and Chase Headley added back-to-back home runs, Yonder Alonso drove in four runs and Carlos Quentin had three RBIs for the Padres, who have won two of their last three and four of six. Cashner...

Phillies Reportedly Looking At Reliever Luke Gregerson, Outfielder From Padres

Jayson Stark's Rumblings and Grumblings column today was mostly about how players feel about stiffening penalties for PED use in baseball. This is a worthy read, just for that. But below the extensive discussion on PEDs are Stark's usual "Rumblings and Grumblings" from around Major League Baseball and the Phillies...

Hanging-tight D-backs host fading Padres

Some have suggested over the past few days that the Diamondbacks are slipping. But though they lost their hold on first place to the Dodgers -- at the hands of the Cubs, no less -- the D-backs enter the weekend just a half-game back in the NL West. The visiting Padres have slipped even more. At the start of the month, they were in fourth place, just 5 12 games back of the D-backs...

Padres 12, Diamondbacks 3

Andrew Cashner threw six solid innings and hit his first career home run to help lead the San Diego Padres to a 12-3 victory over the Arizona Diamondbacks on Saturday night. Chris Denorfia and Chase Headley added back-to-back home runs, Yonder Alonso drove in four runs and Carlos Quentin had three RBIs for the Padres, who have won two of their last three and four of six. Cashner...

While You Were Drinking: Game 104 (SD vs AZ)

Sometimes things get a little fuzzy after a night drinking at the pub.  Here’s a friendly reminder of what you might have missed while you were drinking. The Padres made the trip from Milwaukee after winning 3 of 4 on the road and watching the bats heat up probably feeling pretty good about themselves. That came to a crushing halt Friday night in Phoenix, where Eric Stults had...

Venable's amazing catch preserves Padres' win over Brewers

The Padres and Brewers combined for 18 runs on 29 hits Thursday afternoon at Miller Park. There were a total of five home runs 38 baserunners and 343 pitches. And all anyone talked about afterward was “the catch.” With the tying runs in scoring position and two outs in the bottom of the seventh inning Padres center fielder Will Venable made one of the most significant —...

Diamondbacks steamroll Padres behind Randall Delgado

Maybe, finally, this team has found it. It’s seemed several times this week that the Diamondbacks may be headed toward a breakthrough and it was obvious that something went right in a convincing 10-0 win over San Diego Friday night. They looked phenomenal on both sides of the ball with no individual performance stronger than Randall Delgado’s complete game shutout, the first of his career.

Detroit Tigers Trade Rumors: ‘Heavy Pursuit’ of Luke Gregerson Reportedly Underway

Luke Gregerson of the San Diego Padres is drawing interest from at least three or four teams, including the Detroit Tigers, CBSSports’s Jon Heyman reports. The Tigers, who’ve had bullpen questions most of the year, are known to have Gregerson on their radar, and two or three more teams are said to be in heavy pursuit of the righthander who’s 4-5 with a 2.98 ERA and 1.04 WHIP...

Padres-Diamondbacks Preview

The Arizona Diamondbacks have struggled against the San Diego Padres, but they've been winning series at home in this NL West matchup. That could be difficult this time around with the Padres improving outside San Diego. Arizona continues its push for the NL West lead in Friday night's series opener. After getting swept in their last series against San Diego (46-57) from...
