After a tough outing for starter Ryan Vogelsong Thursday night in which he surrendered six earned runs in a 6-3 loss to the Braves, the Giants look to respond behind their ace Matt Cain Friday night. Cain was brilliant in his last outing against the dodgers where he was able to hold them to one run in seven and a third innings notching his first win. The Giants hope Cain can pick up where he left off and maintain the form we have all come to expect from the horse. After a rough, winless April for Cain a second win early in May could help immensely to restore any confidence he lost during last month. It will be a tough task to even the four game series Friday against Atlanta since they will be sending veteran Tim Hudson to the mound. Hudson has enjoyed great success this year earning four wins already. He’s also posted even better numbers against San Francisco in his career going 8-4 with 3.17 ERA over 18 starts. Manager Bruce Bochy pointed out they aren’t the only ones that have a t...

Vogelsong is scaring people

Welp. Ryan Vogelsong still isn't right. It was another one of those starts on Thursday against Atlanta. You know, the one where he seems kinda okay through a few innings and then Bochy leaves him in 3 hitters too long and by that time he's given up 5 or 6 runs, and then he gets chainsaw angry, but it's too late, and we can't come back that one night? *Big inhale...

What's the matter with Ryan Vogelsong?

Ryan Vogelsong has not gotten off to a great start and it lead me to take a look at what has and has not been different with him this season compared to previously with the Giants. I looked into the statistics and I think for the most part he has been a victim of bad luck. Here is what I wrote for Bay Area Sports Guy: When you look at the peripheral numbers things really...

Giants, Cain Win Big Over Braves

Friday night the Giants evened up the four game series at one game apiece against the Atlanta Braves, fueled by a vintage performance by Matt Cain. The final score of 8-2 is a wide margin this scrappy team isn’t used to but one they have come to appreciate. The big righty was brilliant from the get go yielding just three hits and two runs over eight solid innings earning his second...

San Francisco Giants: Is It Too Early To Re-Sign Hunter Pence?

Hunter Pence is top-three is nearly every significant offensive statistical category for the San Francisco Giants this season, and it is not farfetched to start thinking about re-signing the 30-year-old. Pence was a large part of the Giants’ 2012 World Series title, even though he hit just .210 with four RBI in last year’s postseason. His pregame speeches were legendary in themselves...

San Francisco Giants fan’s ridiculously stupid half fake beard

Just because Brian Wilson no longer makes his living at AT&T Park doesn’t mean that the freaks have stopped coming out at night.  ”Hey Joe, want to go to the Giants game?  I’ll pick you up at six.”  ”Make it 6:30, I need to draw on my fake beard.” Joe Giantsfan somehow found his way on an MLB Network camera.  Joe Giantsfan will also spend the latter part of Thursday...

Braves fall to Giants behind Bumgarner's gem

SAN FRANCISCO -- Madison Bumgarner struck out a season-high 11 over seven innings, Gregor Blanco entered in the fifth as a pinch hitter and drove in four runs, and the San Francisco Giants routed the Atlanta Braves 10-1 Saturday. The left-handed Bumgarner baffled the Braves, getting them to chase his fastball up in the zone and bite on curveballs in the dirt. Bumgarner (4-1) gave...

Giants 8, Braves 2

Matt Cain pitched eight strong innings and San Francisco beat Tim Hudson for the first time in seven years in the Giants' 8-2 victory over the Atlanta Braves on Friday night. Cain (2-2) allowed three hits and added an RBI single during a six-run rally in the fourth inning. Hudson (4-2) was cruising until the fourth when the Giants batted around and scored six runs. Marco Scutaro...

Vogelsong Struggles Continue in Giants 6-3 Loss to Braves

Ryan Vogelsong lasted less than five innings and gave up six runs in the San Francisco Giants’ 6-3 loss to the Atlanta Braves on Thursday night. The fifth inning once again proved troublesome for Vogelsong as the disastrous four-run inning led to Vogelsong exiting, being replaced by Jose Mijares. Thursday marked the second straight start where Vogelsong didn’t make it out of...

The Phils’ bullpen let one get away in extra-innings, as they lost to the Giants, 4-3.

The Phils’ bullpen allows one to get away in extra-innings, after the offense tied it up in the ninth, as the Phils lose to the Giants, 4-3. The Giants took the lead in the bottom of the second as Hunter Pence hits a lead-off home run, his seventh home run of the season. The Phils tied it up at one-all in the top of the fourth as Kevin Frandsen hits a lead-off home run, his first...

Giants' Bumgarner stifles Braves

Madison Bumgarner struck out a season-high 11 over seven innings, Gregor Blanco entered in the fifth as a pinch hitter and drove in four runs, and the San Francisco Giants routed the Atlanta Braves 10-1 Saturday. The left-handed Bumgarner baffled the Braves, getting them to chase his fastball up in the zone and bite on curveballs in the dirt. Bumgarner (4-1) gave up just four hits...

Stifling the Braves on Saturday, Madison Bumgarner continues dominating for the San Francisco Giants

Rebounding from a hideous start last week, Giants ace Madison Bumgarner stifled Atlanta Braves hitters in a 10-1 victory on Saturday in San Francisco. The 23-year-old Bumgarner (4-1, 2.18 ERA) fanned 11 Braves and yielded only one run over seven innings. With Ryan Vogelsong, Matt Cain and Tim Lincecum continuing to struggle, “Mad Bum” is one of the primary reasons the Giants...

Giants Score 10, Bumgarner Strikes Out 11 in Win Over Braves

Madison Bumgarner struck out eleven over seven innings as the San Francisco Giants won 10-1 over the Atlanta Braves on Saturday afternoon. The Giants’ offense started early with a home run from Pablo Sandoval in the first inning. Sandoval is batting .315 with 5 home runs and 25 RBI on the season but needed to take a moment in the fifth inning after being hit in the wrist by a pitch...

Braves vs Giants Smackdown

The Braves beat the Giants 6-3 last night, and will try to make it two in a row in the second game of this four-game series at AT&T Park in San Francisco.  The Braves have now won four of their last five games, and have a two game lead over second place Washington, in the National League Eastern Division. Braves starter Tim Hudson goes for his 5th win of the season (3.83 ERA...
