As we all know by now, Melky Cabrera was suspended 50 games last week by Major League Baseball thanks to testing positive for performance-enhancing drugs. His 50-game suspension would leave open the possibility of returning to the San Francisco Giants at some point in the postseason, but that is unlikely to happen based news coming out of the Bay Area.

Henry Schulman of the San Francisco Chronicle is reporting that Giants management is so angry with Cabrera for cheating and potentially derailing their playoff hopes, that they won’t use him in any postseason games. Additionally, Schulman says the chances of the Giants re-signing Cabrera this offseason are “close to nil.”

Meanwhile, the players aren’t exactly thrilled with Cabrera either. Giants broadcaster Mike Krukow claims Cabrera’s teammates are ticked off that he never addressed the team and they have rallied around that snub to help create chemistry.

The ironic part of this is that Cabrera is probably the single biggest reason the Giants are in the playoff race right now. At the time of his suspension he was hitting .346 with 11 home runs and 60 RBI. He was also considered one of the front-runners for National League MVP.

Now Cabrera is gone and the team doesn’t want him back even if he’s available in the postseason. Talk about a monumental fall from grace in just a week.
