Found May 21, 2013 on FF Locker Room:
The San Francisco Giants have recalled first baseman Brett Pill and right-handed reliever Sandy Rosario from their Triple-A Fresno farm club. To make room for them, the Giants have opted to place right-handed starter Ryan Vogelsong and right-handed reliever Santiago Casilla on the 15-day disabled list. Expect Vogelsong, who has a fractured right hand to miss a good month and a half minimum while Casilla hopefully will be back within 2-3 weeks. Pill will provide some pop off the bench where as Rosario will be another arm for the San Francisco bullpen. SF Giants Rumors: Vogelsong’s Replacement, Scutaro’s Streak, Tonight’s Matchup, Etc.

Photo Courtesy of Jesse Montellano Let’s put the 1-5 road-trip behind us, and just be glad it’s in the past. The San Francisco Giants kicked off a homestand last night with a big win over the Nationals. Ryan Vogelsong looked like he finally found his groove till he fractured his finger and dislocated his joint in the pinky finger (pitching hand). He’s scheduled to have surgery...

Ryan Vogelsong injury: Vogey leaves game after five strong innings with hand injury

In what had been his best start of the 2013 season, Ryan Vogelsong was injured during an at-bat in Monday’s game against the Nationals. On a poorly timed swing, a pitch from Craig Stammen appeared to deflect off of Vogey’s right hand. Bochy and trainer Dave Groeschner came out to take a look at the hand before immediately escorting the right-hander into the dugout. Vogelsong...

POSTGAME RECAP: Vogelsong breaks hand amid best outing; offense comes alive

GiantsPod breaks Giants pitchers with bad ERAs. When Danny and I went to Fresno for a little Central Valley action in 2011, we saw Barry Zito take a bad spill off the mound and injure his foot. Now Ryan Vogelsong is broken. Worst of all, Vogey was having by far his best game of the season. One more inning of decent work would have given the right-hander just his second quality start...

Vogelsong's Injury a Precursor to 2014 Changes for Giants

This was the season the San Francisco Giants planned to give the 2012 World Championship team a chance to repeat the magic in 2013. Other than improving the bullpen (Chad Gaudin for Guillermo Mota), changing back-up catchers (Guillermo Quiroz for Hector Sanchez) and back-up infielders (Nick Noonan for Ryan Theriot), this season's squad was the essentially same one that swept...

Affeldt has grown to love open-minded Bay Area

(Eds: APNewsNow. Will be updated. AP Photo Planned.) By JANIE McCAULEY AP Baseball Writer When Jeremy Affeldt came to the Bay Area as an opposing player, he wouldn't even leave his hotel room. He was admittedly homophobic. When he joined the San Francisco Giants five years ago, he was determined to get rid of his negative feelings toward the gay population. The transformation...

POSTGAME RECAP: Django Uncained

Everybody predicted that Game One of the 2010 World Series would be one for the record books. Two-time Cy Young Award Winner Tim Lincecum was going up against Cliff Lee, a man eight feet tall with flaming red hair, with an arm made mostly of titanium who had yet to give up a run in his entire playing career.  Lincecum, a man of slight build and a back just four pitches away from...

No Clear Replacement For Vogelsong

I’m beginning to think that this just isn’t Ryan Vogelsong’s year. Even when he pitches well, it’s a letdown. On Monday night, Vogelsong pitched what was easily his best game of the season, tossing five shutout innings against the powerful Washington Nationals. As he was cruising right along, though, tragedy struck. While swinging at a pitch in the bottom of the fifth inning...

Giants Pitcher Ryan Vogelsong Breaks Hand While Hitting, out 4-6 Weeks

This is one of the many reasons why pitchers shouldn’t be hitting, there’s too high a risk of them getting injured. During last night’s game between the San Francisco Giants and the Washington Nationals, pitcher Ryan Vogelsong, broke his hand while at the plate and will now be sidelined for 4-6 weeks after having surgery on Tuesday according to ESPN. “I’ll be back, no...

Giants Take Game, Lose Vogelsong in 8-0 Win Over Nationals

Manager Bruce Bochy said Vogelsong has two breaks in his right hand, at the pinky and knuckle. He’ll have surgery tomorrow and...

Barry Zito Struggles Again in Loss to Rockies

Barry Zito turned in his second straight poor performance for the San Francisco Giants, this time a 5-0 loss to the Colorado Rockies. Zito allowed five runs on 11 hits, striking out four and walked two. After a 1-5 road trip  Giants manager Bruce Bochy  may be ready to make some changes. “We’re going to make some adjustments,” he said. “It’s a great starting rotation...
