The Tigers officially announced the re-signing of starting pitcher Anibal Sanchez to a five-year, $80 million dollar contract with a club option for 2018.
“Anibal pitched tremendously for us down the stretch and during the post-season,” Tigers president and GM Dave Dombrowski said. “He strengthens our starting rotation and we are pleased to have him back with the Tigers organization.”
According to reports, Sanchez’s first choice was to return to the Tigers after having much success down the stretch of the 2012 season and throughout the postseason. The Tigers ultimately were able to outbid the Chicago Cubs who offered a five-year, $77 million dollar deal to the free agent pitcher while the Boston Red Sox were also in on the discussions.
