Late Friday evening, Newsday reporter Marc Craig tweeted, New York Mets general manager Sandy Alderson does not believe contract negotiations will be significantly impacted with starter R.A. Dickey because he was recently awarded the National League Cy-Young: #bbpBox_269586042087165952 a { text-decoration:none; color:#0084B4; }#bbpBox_269586042087165952 a:hover { text-decoration:underline; } Alderson doesn’t think Dickey winning the Cy Young will significantly impact talks. He had already assumed Dickey would likely win. about 13 hours ago via Twitter for iPhoneReplyRetweetFavorite @MarcCarig Marc Carig According to Craig, Alderson said, “at some point” the club will need a resolution on negotiations in order for the club to move on: #bbpBox_269584232953806848 a { text-decoration:none; color:#0084B4; }#bbpBox_269584232953806848 a:hover { text-decoration:underline; } “At some point we need resolution on these discussions to be able to move on. But that time is not now.” Alderson on Dickey/Wright talks about 13 hours ago via Twitter for iPhoneReplyRetweetFavorite @MarcCarig Marc Carig Craig believes the window between Thanksgiving and the start of the Winter Meetings will be very important with regards to both the negotiations with Dicky and David Wright: #bbpBox_269587463180267520 a { text-decoration:none; color:#0084B4; }#bbpBox_269587463180267520 a:hover { text-decoration:underline; } Sounds like the window between Thanksgiving and the winter meetings are going to be an important window in Mets’ talks with Dickey/Wright. about 13 hours ago via Twitter for iPhoneReplyRetweetFavorite @MarcCarig Marc Carig During a conversation with WFAN’s Mike Francesa earlier in the week, the newly crowned Cy-Yong winner stated “talks are ongoing” between the two sides and he is “really hopeful” that a compromise will be reached, saying: “The talks are ongoing, and I’m really hopeful that we’re going to reach a compromise to stay a New York Met. That’s my heart. I’ve expressed that repeatedly to Sandy and to the powers that be. There’s a sense of loyalty I have to an organization that gave me a very unique opportunity … When they gave me the ball in May of 2010 for the first time, they gave me an opportunity that 29 other clubs weren’t willing to give me.” Dickey added, he has been “convinced” by Alderson the Mets are headed in the right direction: “(Sandy Alderson) has convinced me that the Mets are going to do something going forward. And when I say ‘something,’ I mean we are going to improve. How that manifests? Only time will tell, but he has convinced me, and I think he’s done a pretty good job of convincing (third baseman) David (Wright) that he has a plan for us to be a very competitive club going forward.” It’s crazy, because prior to Wednesday evening — when R.A. was named the NL Cy-Young Winner — I had come to terms with the idea of trading Dickey this off-season (in an effort to improve the club).  I understand his trade value is at a high, and a deal for Dickey could bring back multiple prospects or an everyday outfielder; possible one with 25 plus home-run power.  But, something happened after hearing Dickey state his desire to stay in New York. “I don’t want to go, let’s put it that way,” Dickey told MLB.com after accepting his award. “I like being a Met.” The thought of trading him, suddenly has become unacceptable.  Maybe that is because, to me, it was always unacceptable.  And, all I’ve been doing over the last few weeks is trying to convince myself otherwise.  That said, I am hopeful the two sides will come to an agreement that keeps R.A. in New York and I won’t have to spend anymore time convincing myself it is O.K. the best pitcher in the National League last season won’t be doning the blue and orange in 2013 and beyond.
