Frank McCourt has finally agreed to sell the Dodgers according to The Times, he has abruptly surrendered the team after fighting to retain it for what seems like an eternity, a little over two years to be somewhat more precise.

Frank McCourt and MLB commissioner Bud Selig have agreed to seek approval from the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for an auction of the Dodgers. The sale is expected to include the team, Dodger Stadium and the surrounding parking lots, a package bought by McCourt for $421 million in 2004 and will likely sell close to three times that now, which is estimated to be over (queue Dr. Evil) one billion dollars.

The league hopes a new Dodgers owner can be in place by opening day. That seems too good true to be true, but makes a ton of sense from both sides of the spectrum. Never thought I would see the day where McCourt would waive the white flag, wonder who finally talked some sense into the guy? This guy fought to the death, took us through the most disgraceful and embarrassing displays in the history of professional sports. McCourt will be forever remembered for the most public and embarrassing divorce in the history of Los Angeles, bankrupting the Dodgers, and being the most egocentric, arrogant, and most terrible decision maker in Dodgers history. He had no passion for baseball, no love for the game, no clue on how to run a baseball team. Hey! Good news! This may be the very last time I have to write about this ridiculous excuse for an owner again. Moving on-I am not exactly sure how this is going to play into the Dodgers off-season, so just hope for the best, tons of hope, no expectations folks.

The prospective new owner will be the third since Peter O'Malley sold the team to News Corp. back in good ol' 1998. Wow remember Rupert Murdoch? The good news it's the Los Angeles Dodgers, and there will be shortage of suitors. Mark Cuban still appears to be interested, but backed out after getting the one billion dollars thrown threw his ears. From the latest over at MLBTR, doesn't seem to be anything really developing here. Cuban would be great because this guy know business, he knows sports, and he knows how to win. Don't believe me? His Dallas Mavericks just won an NBA Championship. I don't know about you but I am just glad this didn't get dragged through the courts all winter.
