The Miami Marlins were shut out for a third consecutive game on Tuesday and have now gone without a run for 27 consecutive innings.  The Philadelphia Phillies picked up the 1-0 win thanks to a lead-off home run by Jimmy Rollins.  The scoreless streak ties a franchise record for Miami.  The loss also moved the Marlins to two and a half games behind the Phillies for fourth place in the division. Josh Johnson was brilliant after the first batter but that was enough to give him his ninth loss of the year.   The right-hander struck out seven over eight innings of impressive work in which Philadelphia managed only three hits.   Mike Dunn and Steve Cishek combined to work a scoreless ninth and gave Miami a chance to tie it or win it in the bottom half. Miami had five hits, all singles and was able to able to get three runners into scoring position in the game.  All three of those runners were left on base as the streak of futility continued.   Rob Brantly made his major league debut at cat...

JIMMY'S GETTIN' UPSET!

Philly station's anti-Rollins billboard

Following a play where Jimmy Rollins didn't seem to exert maximum effort, one Philadelphia radio station decided to chide the former MVP with a critical billboard.

ERMAGHERD! JIMMY ROLLINS NO RUN SO HARD!

ERMAGHERD!  JIMMY ROLLINS DIDN'T RUN SO FAST He fessed up today: “I was just upset before I even got up there. I was already out of it. Mentally just upset.” This reminds me one time of back when I had a job.  I showed up at Caldor and my cat died.  So I walk in and my shirt was untucked and my manager Jimmy Nixon came to me and say, "Yo Jorge, what are you...

Jimmy Rollins Ties Larry Bowa Phillies New All-Time Leader at Shortstop; What Other Records is He Closing In?

When today's game became official, Jimmy Rollins tied Larry Bowa as the all-time games played leader at shortstop for the Philadelphia Phillies.  Tomorrow, Rollins should take the lead.  Being that his contract keeps him here for likely three more years, he should far pass that amount.  Given his longevity, I figured I would see where he stands in the Phillies record books...

Josh Johnson set to battle Phillies

After snapping a lengthy skid to an NL East rival, the Philadelphia Phillies have a chance for their longest win streak in nearly three weeks. The Phillies, though, might need a better performance from Kyle Kendrick if they want to earn their third straight win Tuesday night against a slumping Miami Marlins lineup. Philadelphia (53-62) ended a five-game losing streak to Miami with...

Record-Setting Night Highlighted by Solid Pitching

There was an awful lot going on in last night’s 1-0 Phillies win over the Marlins. And it all began with just the second pitch of the game which Jimmy Rollins sent screaming over the right field wall for the 41st lead-off homer of his career. That turned out to be the only run of the game, which was also a record-setting game for Rollins. He picked up his 1,731st game at shortstop...

Rollins' leadoff homer stands up as Phils blank Marlins again

MIAMI -- Kyle Kendrick wasn't attempting to be Cole Hamels, but he sure looked liked him Tuesday. Kendrick threw seven scoreless innings for the Philadelphia Phillies in a 1-0 win over the Miami Marlins. The Phillies also blanked the Marlins 4-0 on Monday, with Hamels throwing a complete game. "I'm not going to try to be Cole, I'm not Cole," Kendrick said...

Kyle Kendrick Outduels Josh Johnson in 1-0 Shutout

A pitcher's duel between Josh Johnson and Kyle Kendrick, that's not something you see everyday.  Jimmy Rollins did a few awesome things tonight. For one thing, he launched his 41st career leadoff home run. This happened in the first inning, giving his team the early lead. The next feat he accomplished occurred when the game became official: Jimmy Rollins passed Larry...

Kyle Kendrick, Josh Johnson Square Off In Game Two

What a way to start off this series with the division-rival Marlins. Cole Hamels was spectacular for the second straight start last night as he tossed his second consecutive complete game shut out. Opposed from his five-hitter against the Braves last week, Hamels allowed just seven hits to the Marlins, who coincidentally, were shutout the game before by Chris Capuano and the Dodgers...

WP: Kyle Kendrick (5-9, 4.53 ERA) LP: Josh Johnson (7-9, 3.73 ERA) SV: Jonathan Papelbon (26) Nothing really much happened in tonight's game except for stellar pitching, and a little power from Phillies shortstop Jimmy Rollins during the first few moments of tonight's action.   That's right, J-Roll provided the only offensive scoring for...
