Scott Kazmir is facing the Red Sox for the first time since August 2010 on Saturday afternoon and it’s been a tough road for the lefty since that time. Kazmir has had injury and performance issues that have kept him out of Major League Baseball. Last year he spent time in the independent leagues with the Sugar Land Skeeters where he struggled, compiling a 5.34 ERA in 14 starts with 51 strikeouts in 64 innings. He’s been shaky this season with the Indians, pitching brilliantly in some starts and struggling mightily in others. He’s 2-2 with a 6.35 ERA in six starts. The Boston Globe’s Pete Abraham discussed Kazmir’s matchup with Jon Lester on Red Sox Gameday Live with NESN’s Adam Pellerin. Check out Abraham’s analysis in the video above.

Trend Spotting: Nick Swisher’s stability and Perez stumbles

While Nick Swisher’s ebullient smile and incessant on-field/in dugout antics have endeared him to Indians fans as fast as one would expect; Swisher’s on field performance has been somewhat underrated with the stability of production he offers. Perhaps Nick’s offensive flat line has made him a relatively valuable yet ignorable feature of this offense to date but I promise that...

Terry Francona and Umpire Temporarily Halt Argument For “God Bless America”

Cleveland Indians manager Terry Francona and center fielder Michael Bourn got into a heated argument with second base umpire Tom Hallion and it was interrupted by the great equaliser just seconds later. Heading into the middle of the seventh inning, which is seventh-inning stretch time, Francona had run out onto the field to dispute an out call on an attempted stolen base by Michael...

What will we see next from mercurial Tribe rotation?

Entering the 2013 season, the consensus weakness of the Cleveland Indians roster was its starting rotation. While Chris Antonetti had gone out and significantly boosted the offense — throwing out four-year deals and making small moves for new bench guys — the starters remained mostly intact. And coming off the 2012 season, intact probably wasn’t the best thing to do. Last year...

Red Sox rally to defeat Indians 7-4

BOSTON – The Cleveland Indians blew a one-run lead in the eighth inning against the Boston Red Sox as they fell 7-4 on Saturday afternoon. Lefty Scott Kazmir (2-2, 5.94) received the start for Cleveland against Boston lefty Jon Lester (7-1, 3.15). Both starters were coming off rough outings, Kazmir making it through just three innings and Lester receiving his first loss of...

Cleveland Indians Activate Nick Swisher, Option Cord Phelps

The Cleveland Indians have activated veteran first baseman Nick Swisher from the paternity leave list Friday. Celebrating the child of his birth as reported a few days ago on FFLockerRoom, we are happy to hear that everything went well and the baby and mother is healthy. To make room on the active roster for Swisher, the Indians have optioned second baseman Cord Phelps to their Triple...

Video: Terry Francona Attacks Don Orsillo

Before Friday night's game against the Cleveland Indians, Boston Red Sox NESN play-by-play man Don Orsillo was attacked by Indians skipper Terry Francona. This type of behavior went on through Francona's tenure as Red Sox manager. At one point during the game, Orsillo said he was going to use the video above to press charges against Tito....

Fear Creeps Into Bullpen Mafia After Rough Week

You won’t find a bigger Vinnie Pestano fan than yours truly. Ever since he was a late September callup, earning a save in 2010 against Kansas City at a game that I attended, I thought this guy had the stuff to be a back end of the bullpen option long term. He’s been a huge key to the early season success of this team the last three seasons, and you won’t find a more fun guy...

Clippers tripped up by Chiefs, 2-1

COLUMBUS- The Force was not with the Clippers Saturday during Star Wars night at Huntington Park on Saturday night. In front of 11,446 fans, the largest crowd of the year, Columbus dropped a 2-1 decision to the Syracuse Chiefs in the second extra-inning game of the series. Each team’s pitching staff was tremendous throughout the game. Syracuse allowed their lone run on five hits...

Video: Terry Francona roughs up Red Sox broadcaster in dugout

Terry Francona was back on his old stomping grounds Friday night as his Cleveland Indians took on his former team at Fenway Park.Francona served as manager of the Boston Red Sox for eight seasons and produced two World Series championships while he was there. However, he was given his pink slip at the conclusion of the 2011 season, and after joining ESPN as an analyst for the 2012...

Second Thoughts Game #48: Indians 4, Red Sox 7

Player of the Game: Pedro Ciriaco (3-for-4 with a double and RBI) The Leadoff Saturday was just one of those days. On yet another rainy day in historical Fenway Park, the Indians fell late and lost their second game of the four-game series to the Red Sox, 7-4. Recently winning 18 of their last 22 ballgames, the Tribe is now 1-4 in their last five games and just 1-5 in six games...

Second Thoughts Game #49: Red Sox 6, Indians 5

Player of the Game: Jacoby Ellsbury (2-for-5 with 2 RBI and the game winning RBI double) The Leadoff Where do I even begin? For eight innings, the Indians looked as though they could escape Boston with a series split. Then, the top of the ninth inning came along as did closer Chris Perez. It wasn’t the long ball that hurt Pure Rage on Sunday, but rather the strike zone. Perez...

Rank Relief: Maybe Chris Perez’s job is really safe

Dustin Pedroia smacks a run scoring double to plate the ultimate winning run Unexpectedly, the Indians have been having a great season, but so have the Boston Red Sox.  The Indians had a comfortable lead going into the 8th and Vinnie Pestano stepped in to get 3 outs (obviously).  Pestano is oft mentioned as an imminent threat to closer Chris Perez’s job.  Not like this though...

WFNY Stats & Info: Browns wins or Jason Giambi home runs?

Throughout 2013, I’ve been providing semi-regular headlines here at WFNY under the vein of “WFNY Stats & Info.” Often, these will be incredibly detailed split statistics showing various streaks and runs for the Cleveland teams. Today, I’d like to propose something different: A Cleveland-based prop bet. Which will be more: Home runs hit by Jason Giambi in 2013 for the...

Indians-Reds Preview

Acquired from the Cleveland Indians this offseason, Shin-Soo Choo has been a major catalyst for the Cincinnati Reds. Manager Terry Francona's club, meanwhile, has more than held its own without him. Choo faces his former team for the first time as these Ohio rivals open a unique four-game set Monday at Great American Ball Park. After spending the previous six-plus seasons...

Red Sox-Indians Live: John Lackey Tasked With Slowing Down Indians After Rough Series Opener for Sox

8 a.m. ET: Terry Francona’s return to Fenway Park on Thursday was special, but the end result was a far cry from what the Red Sox anticipated. The Indians jumped all over Ryan Dempster and pounded out 16 hits en route to a 12-3 victory. It was the third straight shaky outing for Dempster, who has failed four times to record his third win of the year. Now, John Lackey will be asked...
