Scott Proctor has a realistic chance of making the Giants bullpen out of spring training. It’d be somewhat of another success story for the 36-year-old who has already had to overcome a blown-out arm and a drinking problem. Proctor, who says he’s now four years sober, was recently candid with the media about his his inability to stay away from the bottle during his time with the Yankees. From Henry Schulman: Part of that was not eating right or sleeping enough, the basics of being a good athlete, but that was not the killer. He said he had a “serious drinking problem,” a binge drinker who stopped when he ran out of booze or passed out. His teammates saw it. Yankees closer Mariano Rivera was not shy about telling Proctor he needed to stop. In 2009, he said, he did stop while rehabbing after Tommy John surgery. “Mariano had been on me a long time about just making wiser choices,” Proctor said. “Then I had a bullpen coach, Steve Foster, a really good Christian guy who tried to help me...

Scott Proctor: Alcohol, not Torre’s overuse, derailed career

Scott Proctor is attempting to land back on a Major League roster this season with the defending World Series champion San Francisco Giants. He hasn’t had any measure of success in the league since 2007, when he played for the rival Dodgers. Prior to that, he had what could be a described as a love-hate relationship with New York Yankees fans, as he was the most used pitcher on...

Pence reveals unique regimen

After an inspired postseason performance last year, the San Francisco Giants outfielder gave credit to his off-field enthusiasm for a favorite off-field activity.

Sadowski helps Dutch upset Korea

One key contributor in the Netherlands' upset victory over Korea in the World Baseball Classic on Saturday wasn't anywhere near the stadium in Taichung, Taiwan. In fact, he's not even Dutch. Ryan Sadowski is a Miami-born, right-handed pitcher with six games of major-league experience, all with the San Francisco Giants in 2009. He's back with the Giants this year...

Tim Lincecum Being Sued By Landlord For Trashing An Apartment

The new sleeked down and refined Tim Lincecum will be headed to open court soon as the case against him filed by his former land lady in 2011 is proceeding. Via CBSSports Lincecum’s former landlady Mindy Friele first sued Lincecum back in 2011 for trashing an apartment to the estimated sum of $200,00.00. The case was on hold as Lincecum pushed for confidential arbitration...

Fantasy Breakout By Position – First Basemen Brandon Belt

One of the challenges when it comes to ranking players by position in fantasy baseball is trying to determine which player is going to have that breakout season and return a profit to your auction buy or draft pick. When reviewing the list of first basemen for the 2013 season, my pick to break out is Brandon Belt of the San Francisco Giants. On the positive side, Belt had good plate...

Giants: Andres Torres, Jose Mijares out of World Baseball Classic with injuries

Per Henry Schulman, among others, Giants outfielder Andres Torres and reliever Jose Mijares have injuries that will keep them out of the World Baseball Classic. Torres, who would have played for Puerto Rico, has an oblique strain that will keep him sidelined for a week. Mijares, a member of the Venezuelan team, has elbow soreness. Minor injuries but enough to keep them out of the...

WBC Injuries: Giants' Andres Torres, Jose Mijares out

Two players dropped out of the World Baseball Classic as a result of injuries suffered during the spring.  Andres Torres was set to play for the Puerto Rico, and Jose Mijares was set to play for Venezuela.  Now, both San Francisco Giants' players will stay back in camp with the team. According to Andrew Baggarly of CSN Bay Area, Torres suffered a strained oblique, causing...

Lincecum scratched from start due to blister

San Francisco Giants pitcher Tim Lincecum was scratched from a start against the Chicago Cubs because of a blister on his right middle finger. Lincecum allowed three runs and four hits in an inning against the Los Angeles Dodgers on Tuesday during his first spring-training start this year. Yusmeiro Petit took his place Saturday. He had appeared in one exhibition game, throwing...

Injuries And The World Baseball Classic

I don’t mean to laugh at any injuries, just the hypocrisy. Maybe it’s just irony that two injuries suffered by Giants players in Spring Training will cause both of them to miss the World Baseball Classic, an event where many teams hold back players for fear of injury.  Jose Mijares’ elbow issue is a real concern for the season, and the oblique strain that Andres Torres has...

2013 Fantasy Baseball Tiers at Catcher – Buster Posey Tops the List

As you are getting ready for your upcoming fantasy baseball draft or auction, there are a few different ways that can help you determine where there is value or a drop off in talent at each position. One way is by grouping each position into tiers to separate different levels of projected performance. By setting up tiers, it will give you a good idea how many catchers are at each...
