Found June 05, 2013 on Minus Twenty-Two:
‘Tis been a rough week for A’s left-hander Sean Doolittle. Considered one of the anchors of the Oakland bullpen and the team’s best lefty reliever, Doolittle has been anything but anchor-worthy in his last three relief appearances. Last Wednesday, against the Giants, Doolittle gave up two earned runs in 1.1 innings. The game by then was already well in hand, and the A’s came away with the W, but Doolittle gave up his first runs in over a month. That would only be the start. In his next appearance three days later against the White Sox, Doolittle allowed Chicago to overcome a two-run deficit and tie the game in an just inning of work, wasting a brilliant outing by Dan Straily. Doolittle was let off the hook, however, when the A’s won the game with a walk-off walk in extra innings. And then on Tuesday, in Milwaukee, came the left-hander’s ugliest showing of the season, if for no other reason than he finally cost the A’s a win. Three hits, three runs and the A’s 3-0 lead evaporated b...

Bartolo Colon named in ESPN report on MLB PED use

ESPN on Tuesday released a report saying MLB is seeking suspensions for players connected to that sketchy-ass Biogeneis clinic in South Florida suspected of distributing performance enhancing drugs. A’s pitcher Bartolo Colon is among the players named in the report as having a link to the clinic, along with King of Technicalities Ryan Braun and Alex Rodriguez, among others. Colon...

Should the Oakland A’s be Buyers at the Trade Deadline?

Traditionally at this time of year, Oakland A’s general manager Billy Beane has been known to start wheelin’ and dealin’ guys before the July 31st trade deadline, but is that necessary this year? When the A’s started the season with a record of 12-4 there was little doubt as to what this team could do.  Sure, they had their struggles after a hot start, but what team doesn’t...

Gallardo faces Colon, looking to break recent slump

Bartolo Colon is showing he's still capable of being a front-line starter with the Oakland Athletics. Yovani Gallardo is trying to prove he's still the ace of the Milwaukee Brewers. Colon and Gallardo will start opposite each other Thursday, when the A's attempt to re-establish their surge by taking two of three from the Brewers. Colon (6-2, 3.33 ERA) is tied with Tommy...

Bartolo Colon won his fourth straight start and Brandon Moss hit a three-run homer to lead the Oakland A's to a 6-1 victory over the Milwaukee Brewers on Wednesday. Colon (7-2) gave up one earned run and eight hits in seven innings for Oakland, which has won 16 of its last 19 games. He struck out four and walked two. Colon is among more than a dozen players whose names have...

Possible MLB Suspensions Put Colon's Season In Question

As we, and I am speaking of all A’s fans in the collective sense right now, sat down preparing to watch the A’s take on the Milwaukee Brewers in the second game of their interleague series, the Twitterverse exploded with the news from ESPN’s Outside The Lines that MLB is seeking to suspend up to 20 players for their involvement with the Biogenesis clinic in Miami. Here’s...

Athletics 5, White Sox 4(10)

Adam Rosales hit a two-out homer in the top of the 10th inning, and the Oakland Athletics had a season high four home runs in a 5-4 win over the Chicago White Sox on Thursday night. Rosales' fourth homer of the season came off White Sox reliever Matt Thornton (0-2), a 1-1 pitch that was just fair to left field. Yoenis Cespedes hit two home runs for the second time in three...

Athletics-White Sox Preview

The Oakland Athletics' starting rotation still looks every bit as tough as it was in a three-game sweep of the Chicago White Sox last week. Those pitchers get another shot at Chicago, which hopes its offensive struggles come to an end after concluding an otherwise miserable road trip on a high note. Oakland's starters look to keep rolling Thursday night as the A's visit...

Yoenis Cespedes Hits Two of Four A’s Homers in 5-4 Win Over White Sox

It appears that Yoenis Cespedes took a liking to multi-homer games after notching the first two-homer game of his career this past Tuesday in Milwaukee. The A’s second-year star slugger connected again for a pair of solo-homers against the Chicago White Sox Thursday in the A’s 5-4 extra-inning win. Including Cespedes’ two blasts, the A’s also got solo-homers from Josh Reddick...

Bartolo Colon Dazzles Again, A’s Take Finale with Brewers 6-1

The A’s secured a series win on Wednesday, taking the final game with the Milwaukee Brewers by the score of 6-1. Despite being in the headlines for the wrong reasons again, Bartolo Colon was at his best on Wednesday.  He surrendered a run in the bottom of the 1st, thanks to a Carlos Gomez RBI triple – but that was all he gave up. The score remained 1-0 until the 5th, when Seth...

A’s 4-Game Winning Streak Ends with 4-3 Loss to Brewers in 10 Innings

Most of Tuesday’s Tuesday’s game between the A’s and Brewers could basically be pitched as a TV pilot for The Yoenis Cespedes Show. The A’s led 3-0 for most of the game, thanks to Cespedes’ two-run home run in the first against Kyle Lohse and his solo shot in the sixth, but a poor outing from Sean Doolittle surrendered the lead in the eighth. To his credit, A.J. Griffin...
