Who’s hot, who’s not?

The Seattle Mariners had a tough week. It’s a good thing they played in Colorado, because a 1-6 road trip turned into a much more respectable 4-6 trip. After struggling at Boston and Cleveland, Seattle took it to the Rockies in the Mile High City. Lots of guys got hits, but this week’s rag is the lack of consistency those hits came in at.

With that being said, a few guys did do some good things this week.

Let’s see who makes the list this week.

Who’s Hot Jason Vargas – SP

Jason Vargas continued to perform well on the mound for the Mariners this week. In a week where Felix Hernandez was very unlike himself, Vargas stepped up in his place. Vargas got his win in Colorado, too, despite it being a hitter’s heaven. He gave up 3 in the outing, but considering Justin Smoak did well in the thin air, it’s quite an accomplish for Vargas, to say the least.

If he’s still available in your fantasy league, I suggest grabbing him quickly. He has been solid all season long and looks like he is going to continue his winning ways.

This week’s stat line: 7 innings, 5 hits, 3 runs, 1 walk, 1 strike out

Dustin Ackley – 2B

Dustin Ackley is widely known as being the Mariners best hitter. He proved that again this week. Easily the most consistent hitter on the team again this week, Ackley had good showings even when his team mates couldn’t seem to hit a baseball.

Ackley should not be available in your league, but if he is, it would be wise to add him.

This week’s stat line: 8 for 27 with 5 runs, 4 RBI’s, 1 home run, 2 doubles, 1 stolen base

Keep An Eye On Jesus Montero – C/DH

Jesus Montero continues to prove his value even if his numbers aren’t huge yet. He’s getting to play every day because of his potential at the plate which results in an easy 3 at bats almost every night. While he still hasn’t found his consistency yet, he is making progress.

Montero would be a good #2 catcher on your team for the time being. He’s not good enough to start in your fantasy lineup every day just yet, but is good enough to fill in when your #1 is out for the day.

This week’s stat line: 4 for 16 with 2 runs, 3 RBI’s and a home run

Michael Saunders – OF

Michael Saunders has been on again/off again all season long, but is starting to even out some and becoming more consistent. He saw some success this week against some tough teams. Of course Colorado makes almost everyone look good, but he’s hitting the ball. That’s all that matters.

Saunders is still available in most leagues and will stay that way until he puts up better numbers. He is heating up, though, so keep your eye on him until he start producing consistently.

This week’s stat line: 6 for 24 with 2 runs, 2 RBI’s, 2 doubles, 1 triple and 2 outfield assists

Who’s Cold Alex Liddi – Util

Alex Liddi had a tough week at the plate. It could be partly due to him playing 3 different positions this week. Sometimes it’s just hard to find your groove when you can’t get comfortable.

This week’s stat line: 1 for 13 with a triple

Mike Carp – Util

Mike Carp has had a tough go for the most part since returning from injury. It will take time for him to warm up, though, seeing how he was injured right off the bat this season. He may have been cold this week, but I’m not counting him out this season.

This week’s stat line: 2 for 10 with 2 solo home runs (2 runs, 2 RBIs)
