Seattle Mariners' Hire Former Reliever to Key Position on Coaching Staff

The Seattle Mariners have brought an old friend back into the fold for the 2024 season.

They've hired former relief pitcher Danny Farquhar as their Major League Pitching Strategist and Assistant Pitching Coach.

Seattle Mariners President of Baseball Operations Jerry Dipoto, Mariners Executive Vice President & General Manager Justin Hollander and Mariners Manager Scott Servais announced today the addition of Major League Pitching Strategist and Assistant Pitching Coach Danny Farquhar to the Major League coaching staff for the 2024 season.

“I am thrilled to return to the Mariners organization after pitching here for 3 seasons,” said Farquhar. “I am greatly looking forward to working with our dynamic pitchers, as well as Scott and our coaching staff.”

The 36-year-old righty spent seven years in the big leagues as a player with the Toronto Blue Jays, Mariners, Tampa Bay Rays, and Chicago White Sox.

His best years were with Seattle, where he pitched from 2013-2015. He appeared in a career-high 66 games during the 2014 season and had a 2.66 ERA.

Lifetime, he was 10-15 with a 3.93 ERA over 253 appearances. He also registered 18 saves, 16 of which came for the M's in 2013.

With the Mariners, he'll get a chance to work with one of the best pitching staffs in all of baseball. Farquhar had been working in the White Sox system, serving as a pitching coach at Double-A Birmingham.

The Mariners finished 88-74 and missed the playoffs by 1.0 game in 2023. They will look to get back to the playoffs this year after making it in 2022.
