The Winter Meetings have come and gone in Major League Baseball.  With all the General Managers together, this is a hot bed of activity with players moving fast and furious.  Indeed, one A.L. West team made a huge splash adding the best player in baseball, Albert Pujols, and a front-line starter, C.J. Wilson.  With the Angels obviously improving and the Rangers having won back-to-back A.L. pennants, what did the Seattle Mariners do to keep pace? I won’t keep you in suspense.  The only hot stove transactions for Seattle over the last two weeks have been extending minor-league deals and Spring Training tryouts to the following position players: Darren Ford, Guilermo Quiroz, and Mike Rivera.  Qurioz gives the Mariners some possible catching depth and has played for the Mariners before spending last season in San Diego’s farm system.  Ford, an outfielder, saw time with the Giants last season appearing in 26 games.  Rivera is also a catcher having spent the majority of his ...

Mariners shopping for veteran starting pitchers

With Felix Hernandez, Michael Pineda and Jason Vargas penciled in atop the rotation, the Mariners could use at least one more veteran arm to solidify a staff that figures to soon include an influx of promising young prospects.

The Seattle Mariners need to tune out the gallery and keep with the current plan in place, and not over react to what other teams are doing. It's a matter of trusting Jack Zduriencik and his model of operation. The Mariners are the Texas Rangers, just three seasons behind.

Should The Mariners Extend Michael Pineda Now?

Last week, the Tampa Bay Rays continued their strategy of aggressively locking up their young talents even before they’ve established themselves in the big leagues, signing Matt Moore to a five year, $14 million contract (followed by three team options) despite the fact that he’s pitched a total of 19 1/3 innings in the Major Leagues. This deal follows in the footsteps...

Mariners, Indians In The Lead For Josh Willingham

The Mariners and Indians appear to be the front-runners for free agent outfielder Josh Willingham, reports Jim Bowden of MLB Network Radio (on Twitter). The Rockies, Twins, and Rays were also in the mix at one point. Willingham, 32, hit .246/.332/.477 with a career-high 29 home runs in 2011. The right-handed hitter tallied 829 1/3 innings in left field, and also has experience...
