The Mets have indicated that they plan to pick-up Carlos Delgado's option but that doesn't necessarily mean that he will be their 1B. The Mets could pick-up Delgado's option and then trade him. An American league team might think that using him as a DH would keep him fresh and allow him to maintain the numbers he produced in 2008. There might even be a small market team that finds Delgado's contract reasonable for the amount of fans he would put in the seats. There is no question that if the Mets want to move Delgado now is the right time, as there is no way his value will ever be higher after the season he had. Delgado hit .271 with 38 HRs and 115 RBIs. But can Delgado repeat those numbers and even if he can't, will the drop-off numbers justify keeping him.
