Game 2012.73: Tigers at Rangers

35-37, 3rd place, 3 games behind CWS. I realize that runs were a luxury over the weekend, but the Pirates are now 23-13 at home with a 2.28 ERA and 1.07 WHIP, all of which are best in the bigs. Quentin Berry’s 2 run home run yesterday was just the 22nd Tigers home run with runners on base this season, which is 13th in the AL. Only the Royals have hit less HR with runners on base...

Scherzer talks about pitching after tragedy

Max Scherzer talked to Tigers radio announcer Dan Dickerson before Monday's game against Texas -- Scherzer's first public comments since the death of his brother Alex last week. Alex Scherzer died Thursday in St. Louis at the age of 24. Max left the team for two days to be with his family, but returned to pitch Saturday in Pittsburgh. He allowed only three hits in six...

Tigers' table-setters do their job

When the bottom five in the lineup aren't hitting, it's that much more important the top four become productive. And for the Detroit Tigers recently, having leadoff man Austin Jackson getting on base along with pesky second hitter Quintin Berry is giving plenty of chances for Miguel Cabrera and Prince Fielder. Jackson reached base twice Monday and Berry got on three times...

Tiger Trade Rumors

It’s almost July, and in the world of the Detroit Tigers and Major League Baseball that means that trade talks are about to swirl. Fans will get worked up into a heavy lather over this guy or that guy and then General Manager Dave Dombrowski will pull a rabbit out of his hat and shock us all with an off the radar guy. See Doug Fister, circa 2011. Rick Porcello...

Game 2012.75: Tigers at Rangers

36-38, 3rd place, 3 games behind CWS Dombrowski said today that “he did not think that 2B is going to be the reason why we win or lose the division.” Was this an endorsement of Santiago? Santiago’s hitting .286 in June and as long as Ramon gets the majority of the ABs, then I agree with DD. Despite that, Tigers 2B are hitting .202 this season, which is why Lowrie remains a...

Fielder drives in 4, but Tigers lose to Rangers

ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) -- Yu Darvish struck out 10 in seven innings to win his seventh consecutive start at Rangers Ballpark, a 7-5 victory over the Detroit Tigers on Tuesday night. After giving up two runs in the first four batters, Darvish (10-4) had his fourth double-figure strikeout game while joining teammate Matt Harrison and Tampa Bay left-hander David Price as the American...

Tigers 8, Rangers 2

Miguel Cabrera drove in three runs with a pair of doubles, Rick Porcello struck out seven in six solid innings and the Detroit Tigers beat the Texas Rangers 8-2 Monday night. After their first 12 batters, the Tigers had already roughed up Rangers rookie right-hander Justin Grimm (1-1) for six runs and eight hits in the 100-degree heat. They had only five runs and 15 hits while losing...

Tigers latest victim to Yu Darvish in Arlington

The Tigers’ offense seemed to of picked up where it left off Monday night but in the end they simply couldn’t overcome the dominance of Yu Darvish. Darvish fanned 10 over seven innings earning his 10th victory on the season as the Rangers went on to beat the Tigers 7-5 from Arlington. The Tigers though were able to jump on Darvish early. Austin Jackson led off the game with...

Game 2012.74: Tigers at Rangers

36-37, 3rd place, 2 games behind CWS. Rick P climbed the mound last night against the same team that battered him for the worst performance of his career eight weeks ago, and turned in his best performance of the year. He threw first pitch strikes to 19 out of 27 batters, and used the Texas heat to consistently threw his best sinker of the year down in the strike zone. Now, he still...

Each Monday, good or bad, we’ll look back at the biggest theme of the week that was for the Detroit Tigers. While all the focus has rightfully been on the starting pitching and offense, the Detroit Tigers’ bullpen quietly put … Continue reading →

Braun has surprised doubters, not himself

It's as if nothing changed for Ryan Braun. As if he never had to fight for his name last winter. As if Prince Fielder was still hitting cleanup behind him in the Milwaukee Brewers lineup. Braun, 28, is almost exactly the player he was a year ago at this time. The uproar over his positive test for elevated levels of testosterone and successful appeal and avoidance of a 50...
