The Miami Marlins struggled offensively for a second straight day as they lost Thursday’s game to the Philadelphia Phillies 3-1.   The loss gave the Phillies a series win and moved the Marlins to 2-5 on the year.   This was Joey Cora’s second game as acting manager with Ozzie Guillen scheduled to take over again on Tuesday against the Chicago Cubs.

Mark Buehrle was decent in the game doing enough to keep the Marlins in the game.   The veteran lefty allowed three runs on eight hits in six and a third innings pitched.   The Phillies took Buehrle deep for two solo shots as well before he exited after 92 pitches.   Randy Choate and Steve Cishek picked up the final two outs of the inning.    Edward Mujica pitched the eighth in perfect fashion.

The Marlins’ lone run came courtesy of John Buck who doubled in the game while getting a pair of base hits.   Omar Infante also doubled, and had two hits overall as well.    Logan Morrison and Emilio Bonifacio were the only other Marlins to pick up base hits in the game as the team complied a total of six hits.     Gaby Sanchez’s average slipped to a dismal .125 and he struck out in the ninth on what would’ve been ball four.

On Friday the Marlins will begin their first ever homestand at Marlins Park as they take on the Houston Astros.  Going for Miami will be Ricky Nolasco while Houston will counter with Lucas Harrell.
