A series win against Kansas City would have placed the Indians in one of the two Wild Card spots, but the feisty Royals have stuck around for a little while longer. The Indians will come back home now, where they will face an easier and less familiar foe. Finally, the Houston Astros have come back to Cleveland. It may be a common occurrence in the future with the Astros now in the American League West, but this will be the first series in Cleveland between the two teams since 2000 and just the second ever. In the last game the two teams played in Ohio, Dave Burba beat Shane Reynolds. They have played six games Texas in the past two seasons, giving the current rosters at least some experience against each other. Game 1: Thursday, September 19th 7:05 PM EDT Dallas Keuchel, LHP, 6-9, 5.17 ERA vs Ubaldo Jimenez, RHP, 12-9, 3.49 ERA Game 2: Friday,  September 20th 7:05 PM EDT Brett Oberholtzer, LHP, 4-3, 2.98 ERA vs Zach McAllister, RHP, 8-9, 3.96 ERA Game 3: Saturday...

WFNY Stats & Info: Ubaldo Jimenez emerging as Indians ace

Yet again, I can’t help but share how amazing Ubaldo Jimenez has been for the Indians over a nearly five-month span. First, in early June, I wrote about some of his best starts in a Cleveland uniform. Then, again in a stats headline, I wrote about his incredible continued improvement here in early September. Man, did Jimenez remain hot again last night against the Houston Astros...

The “Brian Hoyer? Screw Brian Hoyer!” WFNY Tribe Roundtable

Brian Hoyer? Former third-string quarterback BRIAN HOYER is dominating the discussion today. Who gives a damn? If the Indians win tonight, they’re in the second wild card slot with ten games to play! This is what we should be talking about! Craig said there isn’t much to debate about with the Tribe, but let’s prove him wrong. Who do you feel most comfortable with on the mound...

Justin Masterson Injury Update: Indians Ace Eyeing Return for Pennant Push

With just a few games remaining in the American League Wild Card hunt, the Cleveland Indians are hoping to get a boost to their pitching staff with Justin Masterson potentially set to throw a bullpen session this Friday. Masterson, who has been battling a strained oblique since September 2nd, could be available either out of the bullpen or in the rotation before the end of...

Orbiting Cleveland: A 2007 vs. 2013 comparison

This is it. The final leg of the 2013 MLB season is upon us. With just nine games left to play, the postseason is now a real, attainable goal for the Cleveland Indians. In fact, at this point, anything less would almost be a failure. With their 5-3 come-from-behind win Tuesday against the Kansas City Royals, the Indians became something that they had not been for six years — winners...

Indians win to close within half-game of wild card

The Houston Astros have lost a major league-high 102 games. The last two have been especially painful to manager Bo Porter. Matt Carson's two-out, bases-loaded single off Rhiner Cruz in the 11th inning Thursday gave the Cleveland Indians a 2-1 victory over Houston. It was the Astros' second extra-inning defeat in two nights - following a 6-5 loss to Cincinnati in 13 innings...

Houston Astros Got Less Viewers Than Sky-Lynx WNBA Game Saturday

Things are ugly for the Houston Astros. They are 51-99 which is  the worst in the league and don’t have much to be excited about. Now they are getting less viewers than out of market WNBA games according to Deadspin: According to a source with access to the detailed Nielsen figures, the Astros game drew a total of 48,800 households locally over the three-plus hour broadcast....

Video: Astros player gets up close and personal with Brandon Phillips in embarrassing play

Oh, it was just the Houston Astros being the Houston Astros. Already trailing 4-0 in the bottom of the first inning, Astros shortstop Jonathan Villar slashed a line drive into center field to record a hit. But things went awry when the 22-year-old inexplicably tried to stretch a single into a double, much to the chagrin of Reds center fielder Shin-Soo Choo, who calmly fielded...

Second Thoughts Game #151: Indians 5, Royals 3

Those Tribe fans whose television sets survived past the fifth inning were treated to a Tribe comeback win against wild card rival Kansas City to even the final regular season series between the two AL Central clubs at one. With their 5-3 win, the Indians clinched their first winning season since 2007, which was also the last time they made the playoffs. After Texas snapped...

Jonathan Villar Gets A Mouthful of Brandon Phillips Backside

Houston Astros’ Jonathan Villar was dead to rights trying to stretch a single into a double last night against the Cincinnati Reds. To add insult to injury Villar got a mouthful of Brandon Phillips backside as he slide into second base, love the no look between the legs tag by Phillips. The post Jonathan Villar Gets A Mouthful of Brandon Phillips Backside appeared first on Baseball Hot Corner.

Just another strange game at Minute Maid Park

The visiting Cincinnati Reds beat the Houston Astros in one strange and long game yesterday. It took the Reds five hours and eighteen minutes to do so. The game featured the coming out party, if you will, for Billy Hamilton who stole four bases in his first MLB start. Despite those four stolen bases and the fact that he was on base five times in the game, he scored only twice. That...
