Ladies and Gentleman. Welcome to Fenway Park. Those words will always mean something special. This will be the first year that the late Carl Beane would not start as the year’s public address announcer. And you know, he would have loved this team. The Red Sox come into the home opener in first place in the American League East. It is the first time they have come into a home opener above a .500 record since 2006. The Sox also bring the best home opener streak in baseball; they have won eight straight home openers come into today. The team they face, though, is flying high, and not just because their mascot is a bird. Chris Davis started the season with four home runs in four games. Adam Jones has the best batting average in baseball at .538, and also has already scored nine runs in six games. This series will be between two reborn teams, one that had success last year, and one that hopes to have success this year. Series: vs. Baltimore Orioles (Fenway Park, Boston, MA) Probable Starters (Career vs. Opponent) April 8, 2:05 LHP Wei-Yin Chen (2-0, 2.50 ERA) vs. RHP Clay Buchholz (7-3, 3.64 ERA) April 10, 7:10 RHP Jake Arrieta (0-3, 6.00 ERA) vs. RHP Ryan Dempster (1-0, 1.35 ERA) April 11, 7:10 RHP Chris Tillman (1-1, 2.88 ERA) vs. LHP Felix Doubront (0-2, 3.13 ERA) Storylines: Stephen Drew, who will play his last rehab game today with the Portland Sea Dogs, is set to rejoin the team on Wednesday. The home crowd will finally get to see whether this Drew will be better than the last Drew experiment. José Iglesias is expected to go to AAA Pawtucket when Drew is activated from the 7-Day Disabled List, despite coming into the home opener with a .529 average, and the first game of the series might be his last game in front of the home fans for a while. Jackie Bradley Jr. had a hot spring, but the regular season poured water on him to cool him off. He is not in the lineup for the home opener, which raises the question of what a lineup without Bradley will look like. Daniel Nava and Jonny Gomes will be in the lineup together for the first time this year after being mutually exclusive for the first six games. Enjoy the series, and thanks for reading!

April Might Be The Orioles Most Important Month

You hear a lot of baseball fans use the term “Its only April” when talking about teams this time of year because the baseball season is so long. For the most part that is correct, you should never get to high or to low in April because come September the good teams who deserve to be in the post season most of the time end up there. This April, however, could be very important...

MRI on John Lackey comes back negative for structural damage

John Lackey has been diagnosed with a mid-biceps strain and will likely be placed on the 15-day disabled list. The injury should miss less then a month after leaving his Saturday start with the injury. According to WEEI’s Rob Bradford, Red Sox CEO Larry Lucchino said that it was his “understanding of the MRI is that he had a mid-biceps strain, no structural damage.” That would...

Big Papi expected to return Friday

Boston designated hitter David Ortiz is expected to return to the Red Sox lineup when they open a home series Friday against Kansas City. Ortiz hasn't played this season because of an injured right Achilles, which limited him to 90 games in 2012. He began a rehabilitation assignment last week and went 4 for 20, including a home run on Thursday. Boston manager John Farrell said...

After Hot 1st Week, Red Sox Look to Continue Success

After 6 games, the Boston Red Sox are standing atop the AL East standings for the first time since September 1st 2011. It may not mean much in the early season, but they are giving fans hope, and are already getting fans attention, for a good reason, something that the 2012 team couldn’t do at all. The Red Sox, 4-2, have won both because of their offense and their pitching. Boston...

Blue Jays Claim First Baseman Mauro Gomez Off Waivers From Red Sox

After making his major league debut with Boston last season, Mauro Gomez is heading north. The first baseman, who was designated for assignment by the Red Sox last week, has been claimed off waivers by the Toronto Blue Jays. Gomez has bounced around the minors since 2005, making stops in Rangers and Braves systems before being signed by the Sox in February of 2012. He hit .310 with...

3 Stars of the game: Game 6

The Boston Red Sox finished up their season opening 6 game road trip with a huge 13-0 win over Toronto on Sunday afternoon. The team jumped all over last seasons NL Cy Young winner, R.A. Dickey with 5 runs in the first inning and the runs snowballed from there. While it is fantastic for the team to play this well together it makes my job to pick 3 stars of the game very difficult...

After the home opener on Monday, where Bailey pitched a perfect 8th inning, Bailey said “I don’t really...
