Your Morning Dump...where Buchholz is locked in

Every morning, we compile the links of the day and dump them here... highlighting the big storyline. Because there's nothing quite as satisfying as a good morning dump. After allowing two runs in 7 2⁄3 innings of last night’s easy-breezy 7-2 victory over the Houston Astros, Buchholz became the majors’ first five-game winner. His ERA is 1.19, lowest for a Red Sox...

Clay Buchholz’s Uncharacteristic Hot Start a Symbol of Just How Special Pitcher’s Season Could Be

BOSTON — April wasn’t kind to Clay Buchholz the past couple of years. It’s been very cooperative this trip through the calendar. Buchholz turned in another solid outing on Thursday, working into the eighth inning while holding the Astros to just two runs. He struck out 10 in his 7 2/3 innings of work, and the right-hander is now 5-0 with a 1.19 ERA to begin the season. Buchholz’s...

Andrew Bailey’s Three Saves, Eight Strikeouts Earns Him Amica Player of the Week Honors

Clay Buchholz could have won it for the third week in a row, but we’re giving it to the closer. Andrew Bailey is this week’s Amica Pitcher of the Week for an impressive seven-day stretch. The reliever pitched four innings, allowed just one earned run and struck out eight this week in performances against the Royals and Athletics. Bailey added three saves to his stat line. The...

8 a.m. ET: The Red Sox responded to a good old-fashioned beatdown by bouncing back and grinding out a 6-5 win over the Athletics on Wednesday. Now, the Sox’ focus turns to the Astros, who arrive at Fenway Park on Thursday for the start of a four-game set. Houston, in its first year in the American League West, figures to have a difficult season ahead. The Astros are a very young...

Buchholz keeps on cruisin'

It isn't that we weren't expecting Clay Buchholz to play well, it's that we didn't see this coming. Buchholz continues his dominant streak after yesterday's fantastic outing. In 7 2/3 innings, he allowed only 2 runs on 6 hits and posted 10 strikeouts. With this W, Buchholz is now 5-0, the first Red Sox pitcher since Josh Beckett in'07 to win his first five...

Recap: The Houston Astros didn't have a lot of fun tonight

Can I go home now?  (AP Photo/Michael Dwyer) How bad are the Houston Astros, you ask?  They made Ryan Dempster look like Clay Buchholz tonight as Boston cruised to an easy 7-3 victory. The Red Sox had no trouble trouble at the plate or on the mound tonight.  Their 5 pitchers combined for 14 strike outs, and they amassed 17 hits and 4 home runs with their bats. Dempster was...

David Ross goes deep twice

Ryan Dempster's 10 strikeouts were nearly overshadowed by the offensive support his teammates provided in his first win as a member of the Boston Red Sox. Boston had 17 hits, including nine for extra bases, in a 7-3 win over the Houston Astros on Friday night as the Red Sox continued one of the best opening months in team history. Backup catcher David Ross cleared the Green...

Red Sox-Astros Live: Ryan Dempster Still Looking for First Win As Sox Welcome Old Friend Erik Bedard to Fenway

8 a.m. ET: Win No. 1 has been elusive. Ryan Dempster has pitched well for the Red Sox in his four starts, but he still hasn’t been able to pick up his first win of the season. The right-hander will have a great opportunity on Friday, though, as he’ll toe the rubber against the lowly Astros. Clay Buchholz and the Sox took care of business in the series opener on Thursday behind...

3 Stars of the game: Game 22

The Houston Astros played their first game in Fenway Park as a member of the American League, and they may not want to remember much of the game. Red Sox hitters jumped all over Phil Humber early, plating 4 runs in the first inning. While the offense may have missed some speed with Shane Victorino currently out and on a day to day basis they did not let this slow them down. Pitching...
