The Oakland A’s will try to get back on track tonight against the Cincinnati Reds in the opener of a short two-game interleague series in Oakland. Bob Melvin’s squad went 2-5 on a seven-game jaunt through Texas and Seattle, losing the final two games to the Mariners in particularly frustrating fashion. For whatever reason, Seattle seems to have Oakland’s number this season, as the A’s are only 5-8 against them in 13 contests. With the series loss to Seattle, the A’s fell to 44-34, a game behind the Rangers in the A.L. West. Perhaps due to the fatigue caused by the 18-inning marathon win over the Yankees on June 13th, the A’s have gone just 3-7 in the ten games since – so Monday’s off-day probably came at a very welcomed time for Melvin and his team. The A’s and Reds haven’t faced each other since a series in June 2010, when the Reds swept a three-game set.
