Alex Pavlovic of the San Jose Mercury News says it’s just Spring Training, but shortstop Brandon Crawford has looked like a different guy with the bat, and he’s looking like he’ll take that into the regular season.   “He’s playing with a lot of confidence,” said manager Bruce Bochy. “We’re optimistic that he’s going to contribute. He’s going to surprise some people.” Pavlovic says, Bochy stayed at the park late Tuesday night with GM Brian Sabean to go over roster decisions. There could be a couple of roster trims before the San Francisco Giants break camp in Arizona this weekend. ~King of Cali (Steven) ———-——–—-——-——––———————-—————————————————- You can follow SF Giants Rumors Facebook page for more Giants updates! Virgin America puts Brian Wilson beard on its Giants plane (Picture)

The Giants began a partnership with the Virgin America airline last year, so what better way to kick things off with a team plane that features a Brian Wilson beard at the nose. In addition to decking out an Airbus A320 jet with Giants logos, the club level at AT&T Park is named after Virgin America, and a high-end bar named “The Virgin America Flight Deck” was created...

SF Giants Rumors: Who’s Making The Roster?

Henry Schulman of the San Francisco Chronicle says the San Francisco Giants are going to carry 12 pitchers to start the regular season.   That’s very bad news for position players on the bubble like Brandon Belt, Brett Pill and Hector Sanchez. You can subtract Sanchez from that final roster spot. The Giants will go with either Chris Stewart or Eli Whiteside. If the Giants really...

SF Giants Rumors: Parting Ways With Fontenot, Get Breaking News To Your Mobile Phone!

The San Francisco Giants have decided to part ways with infielder Mike Fontenot. Which means another player from the 2010 World Series team is gone. I really liked Fontenot and everything he brought to the team. SF Giants Rumors wishes you the best of luck Fontenot!   When this breaking news came out. I was able to update the SF Giants Rumors Facebook page right away. I also sent...

Giants-themed Virgin America plane comes with a beard (Photo)

Virgin America apparently has a branding agreement with the San Francisco Giants that allows the ball club to have a plane emblazoned with its logos. Here’s a photo of it. But, as you can see, that’s not all. At the front of the aircraft, the plane sports a beard, referencing the Giants’ famously bearded weirdo closer, Brian Wilson. Already this plane is funnier than Wilson...

Giants Release Mike Fontenot

In a surprising move today, the Giants cut 2B Mike Fontenot. Fontenot came over in an August trade with the Cubs for OF Evan Crawford. Last year he hit .227/.304/.377 in 252 PA’s. His release likely solidifies Ryan Theriot’s roster spot as well as gives Joaquin Arias and Brett Pill an easier path to a spot on the opening day roster. Were it up to me I would have started Fontenot...

San Francisco Giants: MLB 2012 Preview

The Giants made some changes in the offseason trading away Jonathan Sanchez (albeit at his lowest value), trading Andres Torres and Ramon Ramirez and acquiring Melky Cabrera and Angel Pagan. They got decent value albeit older guys again. The Giants have this pattern of trading away young guys for veterans. Jonathan Sanchez should’ve been traded the year before when his value was...

Being smart with Cain is downright stupid

I really don't know what they're waiting for. Maybe Larry Baer is going to see if he and Sabean won the Mega Millions on Friday night before they make a real offer to Matt Cain.I suppose an infusion of cash like that could certainly change negotiations between Cainer and the Giants, but let's not count on it.What I don't understand is why this is taking so long. What...

Yes, That Virgin America San Francisco Giants Plane Has Brian Wilson Beard

The San Francisco Giants have their own Virgin America plane, which makes sense, since Virgin is the only airline based out of SFO. Unlike other team planes, which sport a logo, the Giants has a little extra touch. In addition to the logo, the team’s plane has a little extra touch, a beard right below the nose of the plane. Virgin says it’s to honor the “facial-hair friendly”...

Giants place four players on DL

The San Francisco Giants placed second baseman Freddy Sanchez on the 15-day disabled list Friday along with pitchers Ryan Vogelsong, Eric Surkamp and Dan Runzler.Sanchez underwent labrum surgery on his right shoulder last summer and isn't quite ready to return to the lineup. Vogelsong strained his back lifting weights last month before arriving to spring training. Surkamp has...

Cain agrees to $127.5M deal with Giants

Matt Cain has that hefty new contract he hoped for before opening day. Cain and the San Francisco Giants agreed Monday to a $127.5 million, six-year contract, the largest deal for a right-handed pitcher in baseball history. The agreement adds $112.5 million over five years to the $15 million salary for 2012 that was remaining in his previous deal. Cain gets a $5 million signing...

Grant at McCovey Chronicles took a look at the Giants history of evaluating hitters and in the process posted a table that I want to take a look at further. Giants since 2005: 2005: .319 on-base percentage (29th out of 30 teams), .714 OPS (28th), 86 OPS+ (29th), 649 runs scored (29th) 2006: .324 on-base percentage (28th), .746 OPS (25th), 90 OPS+ (24th), 746 runs...
