New York Mets slugger Gary Sheffield(notes) apparently thinks he's a goner (and soon) from the Mets roster, according to the New York Post. Sheffield apparently is thinking the Mets are going to just put him on waivers and let him go before season's end.

The team actually had him on waivers and took him off when he was claimed by an unidentified team last week. So if the Mets put him on again, it couldn't get anything in return for him.
Still, Sheffield tells the Post he expects to either be wearing another uniform before September ends or not be wearing a uniform at all. The soon-to-be 41-year-old is ready to just pack his things up and go home for the off-season if a team that he doesn't like picks him up.

The Florida Marlins and Texas Rangers are both supposedly looking for somebody like Sheffield, but he says he won't go anywhere that doesn't already have a strong lineup. He doesn't want to end up being a scapegoat. "The light always seems to be on me. I've had that light on me for [my whole career]. I don't need that now," he told the paper.
