James Shields made a stellar first start against his former team, and Mike Moustakas hit a two-run homer to spur the Kansas City Royals to an 8-2 victory over the Tampa Bay Rays on Tuesday night. Shields (2-2) allowed a two-run homer to Matt Joyce in the first inning, but only allowed three more hits over the next six. He struck out seven in the kind of dominant performance that the Royals were hoping for when they acquired him in December. The Royals trailed 2-1 in the sixth when Moustakas' first homer of the year gave Kansas City the lead. The Royals added another run to chase Rays starter Alex Cobb (3-2), and three more off reliever Brandon Gomes in the seventh, ensuring up the win for ''Big Game'' James.

Shields leads Royals to 8-2 win over Rays

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) James Shields made a stellar first start against his former team, and Mike Moustakas hit a two-run homer to spur the Kansas City Royals to an 8-2 victory over the Tampa Bay Rays on Tuesday night. Hosmer starting to show signs of resurgence

KANSAS CITY, Mo. No one is proclaiming that Royals first baseman Eric Hosmer is "back." But there certainly have been signs in the past week that Hosmer is resembling the prospect that everyone in baseball was raving about after his rookie season (.293, 19 homers, 78 RBIs) and not the flop he was last year (.232, 14 homers, 60 RBIs). Hosmer's resurgence, if it truly...

Brett gives Moose some surprising advice

KANSAS CITY, Mo. When slumping Royals third baseman Mike Moustakas got to Kauffman Stadium on Tuesday, he figured he would just go through his normal pregame routine of stretching, taking infield and batting practice all the while trying to keep his chin up. But then Moustakas got a surprise visit from Royals legend George Brett that not only changed his attitude, but may have...

Jeff Francoeur triples, celebrates with an Eddie Rodriguez sac slap

On Monday night, the Royals broke their 2 game skid, winning 8-2 over the Tampa Bay Rays (I still want to say Devil). Batting 7th, Jeff Francouer had a nice game, going 2 for 4 with an RBI and a triple... and a celebratory tap of 3rd base coach Eddie Rodriguez's balls. The best part of this scene, Rodriguez doesn't looked shocked or upset... Instead, he has that "...

Kansas City Royals Option Pitcher Will Smith

The Kansas City Royals have optioned left handed pitcher Will Smith to Triple-A Omaha after allowing four earned runs, six total, in just over four innings of work. This isn’t devastating news and his performance didn’t decide anything as FFLockerRoom warned you before hand that his call-up was to provide depth for the Royals and nothing more. He should be back again this summer...

Sixth inning again does Rays in against Royals

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) -- Elliot Johnson homered against his former team and the Kansas City Royals rallied from an early five-run hole, beating the Tampa Rays 9-8 on a cold, blustery Wednesday night. Lorenzo Cain and Jeff Francoeur each drove in a pair of runs for the Royals, who trailed 5-0 in the third inning before slowly chipping away at the Tampa Bay lead. They eventually pulled...

Jeff Francouer tapped third base coach in nuts after hitting triple (GIF)

Kansas City Royals outfielder Jeff Francouer hit a triple in the seventh inning of his team’s win over the Tampa Bay Rays on Tuesday night, and he was so excited he decided to hand out a jimmy tap. Typically when a player reaches first or third base they go with something like a high-five or a fist bump for the base coach. That’s not Francouer’s style. As you can see, Francouer...

Jeff Francoeur celebrates triple by smacking the third base coach in the balls (GIF)

CBS Sports’ Dayn Perry uncovered this gem from Tuesday night.  Royals outfielder Jeff Francoeur smacked a triple over the head of Rays right fielder Ben Zobrist.  As he was getting up after sliding into third, he gave Royals third base coach Eddie Rodriguez a little “how do ya do?” via CBSSports.com

Cobb, Shields must-starts in fantasy

Start 'Em James Shields (TB, CHW) I still think, 10 years from now, we'll view the Shields-for-Wil-Myers swap as a Tampa heist, though the early returns from Big Game James (3.09 ERA, 1.09 WHIP in five starts) are at least holding off Jeff-Bagwell-for-Larry-Anderson comparisons. Part of the early triumph has been his ability to limit the long ball, as Shields, historically...

Royals rally from 5-run hole to beat Rays 9-8

Luke Hochevar finding his niche as a reliever

It’s pretty easy to point out all the bad decisions the Royals organization made over the years. But they’ve made some right decisions and one of them was to make Luke Hochevar a reliever. With all the improvements the Royals made to the starting rotation, moving Hochevar to the bullpen was a no-brainier. In his 127 games as a starter, Hochevar had a 5.45 ERA, giving up 94 home...

Ubaldo leads 9-0 victory over Royals

Kansas City, MO — Ubaldo Jimenez pitched seven plus innings of shutout baseball and right fielder Ryan Raburn went 4-for-4 with two home runs, as the Cleveland Indians beat the Kansas City Royals 9-0.   With the win, the Tribe finished their road trip with a 5-4 record before returning to Cleveland on Tuesday.   Jimenez (1-2, 7.13) recorded his first win since August 9, 2012...

Best GIF of the Week: Jeff Francoeur Nut Tapped His Third Base Coach

Best GIF of the week by far. Jeff Francoeur has always been a fun-loving guy in the clubhouse and this pretty much made it official. After a triple in the 7th inning of Tuesday night’s game. Francoeur slid into third and nut tapped third base coach Eddie Rodriguez. Awesome.
