The Milwaukee Brewers are still hoping to compete for a division crown in the National League Central this season, but having already lost Prince Fielder and facing the distinct possibility of having to start the first 50 games of the 2012 MLB season without 2011 N.L. MVP Ryan Braun, should the Brewers consider trading the ace of their staff, Zack Greinke?
I know it may sound insane, but considering the uphill battle that the Brewers may be facing, it may become a reality at some point this season.
The N.L. Central is unquestionably weaker this season following the departures of Fielder and Albert Pujols to the American League. The 2011 Word Series champions, the St. Louis Cardinals, are still going to be a very tough team. Adam Wainwright appears to be back to his former self following Tommy John surgery that forced him to miss all of last season, and they also signed Carlos Beltran to help make up for the loss of Pujols.
The Cincinnati Reds have also demonstrated that they are all...

2012 Milwaukee Brewers: The Starting Rotation and Catchers
After covering both the infield and outfield over the past couple of weeks, we’ve finally gotten to possibly the most vital position on the team, if the last decade is used as a measuring stick. That is the starting rotation. There are no changes whatsoever from last year’s starting five except maybe the order they’re ranked. But no matter what, this is a team strength...
Braun PED appeal: MLB not starstruck
Want to know the strangest part about the Ryan Braun case? The best outcome for baseball might be if a three-member panel upheld Braun's positive drug test, forcing him to serve a 50-game suspension.
That's right, baseball might be better off if the reigning National League MVP missed nearly one-third of the season than if he reported to spring training as if nothing ever...
Small-market Brewers will pay to field a winner
MILWAUKEE It would have been unthinkable just five years ago, but the Milwaukee Brewers will open the 2012 season with a payroll in excess of 100 million.
That's a fairly hefty number for a team that plays in Major League Baseball's smallest media market, but it's also a testament to the product general manager Doug Melvin has put on the field, the willingness of owner...
Aramis Is The Wrong Direction For Brewers
The Brewers signed Aramis Ramirez to a 3-year deal today to play 3rd and fill in the gap in offense that the departed Prince Fielder left via free agency. Although Fielder has yet to sign with another team, it’s all but a guarantee that the slugger will land somewhere other than Milwaukee for the next decade. By acquiring Ramirez, the Brewers upgrade their infield defense and...
If Ryan Braun Is Innocent
Much has been written about the fate of Ryan Braun's appealed 50-game suspension. Most of it is peppered in an altogether negative (or as some call it, "realistic") overtone. We've touched on it. Articles routinely mention that Major League Baseball has never overturned a PED-related suspension. Milwaukee's front office has added personnel in the instance its...
Zack Greinke Player Projection No. 61
Key Stats: In 2009 Greinke established himself as an "ace", 16-8 record, 2.16 ERA, 242 K's and an AL Cy Young Award. He "fell apart" in 2010, losing record, ERA over 4.00, lower K rate, higher BB rate. It wasn't a pretty picture. The Brewers traded for him, and he found his old form again in Milwaukee. Back to 16 wins, back over 200 K's, back to being...
Braun Tests Positive, Could Mean Big Changes in Milwaukee
It was just made public that NL MVP Ryan Braun has tested positive for performance enhancing drugs and will serve a 50-game suspension barring an appeal. This is extremely significant for Milwaukee going forward and all but surely takes them out of the bidding for Prince Fielder as Braun will miss 1/3 of the season in 2012. This news must come as a shock to the front office, and...
Player Profile #56: Yovani Gallardo | SP | MIL
I’ve always found Yovani Gallardo to be one of the most frustrating players in fantasy, but perhaps that’s because my expectations for him were too high too early. If you look at his stats (and we’ve given you a convenient way to do that below) you’ll see he’s consistently improved in some key areas each season (see: walk rate). Yes, his WHIP jumped...
Ball Hall to enshrine Staub, Melvin, Cormier and Team Canada
St. Marys – The original face of the Montreal Expos, the current mastermind of the uprising Milwaukee Brewers, the legendary lefthander from Moncton, New Brunswick, and the reigning gold medalists from the 2011 Pan Am Games will be inducted into the Canadian Baseball Hall of Fame at 11:00am on Saturday, June 23rd, 2012.
The ceremony for Rusty Staub, Doug Melvin, Rheal Cormier...
Brewers truck day a sure sign of spring
The Brewers' famous racing sausages were put to work Thursday as the team marked a symbolic start to baseball season. The second of two moving trucks departed the Miller Park loading dock bound for Maryvale Baseball Park in Phoenix.
