The Tampa Bay Rays, while still having a low payroll in terms of MLB playoff contenders are concerned, have a very bright future despite not being able to throw money around like other teams in the American League East. The Boston Red Sox and New York Yankees can toss money after marquee free agents each and every offseason, but that does not guarantee success. Just ask the Red Sox after last September. The Rays will be more than happy to remind you what went down the final month of the regular season. But few teams do better at scouting and growing their own talent than Tampa Bay, especially when it comes to starting pitching. They also know that while having too much of it is never a bad thing, trading some of it could work out just as well in the long run. But does that mean that the Rays should consider parting ways with their ace of the staff in David Price?
