Philly Sports World:
Philadelphia Phillies Catcher Carlos Ruiz
The 2012 season has been a breakout year offensively for the Phillies catcher Carlos Ruiz. In 95 games, Ruiz has set career highs in home runs 14, RBI 58 and batting average, .335. We could easily say that he is the Phillies offensive player of the year, despite being on the disabled list. Ruiz is not expected to return to the Phillies lineup until mid-September. Manager Charlie Manuel has said he will exercise caution, as he is concerned with a relapse. If Ruben Amaro is doing any planning for the future, shelving Ruiz for the remainder of the year should be part of this.
The Phillies have huge needs for next year and the starting catcher position should not be one of them. The Phillies who have a $5 million option on Ruiz next season will without a doubt exercise that option. At $5 Million, Ruiz is coming cheap and at 33, 2013 could be his last in a Phillies uniform.
Taking the option on Ruiz and trading him? Amaro believes the Phillies c...

Let's give the Phillies some credit. Despite being out of the playoff hunt, they have become a team that can be fun to watch. With a little over a month to go in the season we know that the Phillies will miss out on October baseball for the first time since 2006, which means that we will get plenty of time to watch some guys get some playing time in hopes of staying on the roster...
The first two series of the Phillies 2013 regular season schedule has been revealed, as reported by Inquirer's Matt Gelb. The season begins on the road for the Fightin's playing a three-game series down in Turner Field agains the Atlanta Braves beginning on April 2. The Phillies will also close out the season in Atlanta.
On April 5th, the Phillies return to Philadelphia...
The final of the photoshops: Vance Worley in "Home Alone," Michael Martinez as Tupac, Philadelphia's own "Casual Broadcasters," Placido Polanco in "Jurassic Park," Erik Kratz as Ace Ventura, Brian Schneider as Danny Tanner in "Full House," and Scott Franzke & Larry Anderson in "Dumb and Dumber."
You know those annoying Facebook macros going around with a picture of the Angry Beavers on it or whatever, with a big caption reading “ONLY 90S KIDS WOULD REMEMBER THIS CLICK LIKE” across the top? The Philadelphia Phillies made an entire night out of that.Wednesday’s 3-2 loss to Brandon Bronson Arroyo was ’90s Retro Night at Citizens Bank Park, and as the mascot-loving...
Vance Worley fills out the bottom of the rotation, making starts like yesterday’s for the Philadelphia Phillies. Are the young guns in San Francisco getting the job done? The Apocalyptic Horsemen Stats are in my recent coverage linked below.

I am alternating a game-day 2012 ERA For The NL East and a 2012 ERA For The MLB 5. See link section...
The Philadelphia Phillies are an enigma wrapped in riddle this season. Their farm system is very similar in that it has a lot of high points and some low points. There are two players in the top ten at their position that will not be included here. Sebastian Valle is a top ten catcher, but falls behind Tommy Joseph (also a top ten catcher) on the rankings for the team...
Many thanks to Danielle for keeping up with all the pictures I was texting her. Here's one large summary post that will get you all the photos in one spot and include any that we missed. The other were with my iPhone; these are taken with a digitial camera. These were taken by me and my wife throughout the game.
There's a lot of these, so I did split this post,...
John Mayberry Jr. hit an RBI single in the bottom of the 11th inning to lift the Philadelphia Phillies to a 4-3 victory over the Cincinnati Reds on Thursday night.
Todd Frazier drove in all three runs for the NL Central-leading Reds, who were seeking their first series win in Philadelphia since 2006.
The Phillies tied it in the eighth on Jimmy Rollins' sacrifice fly and won...
Cole Hamels against Johnny Cueto sounds like an awfully good pitching match-up. The two candidates for the Cy Young award battled in a pitcher's duel after a shaky and rainy first inning from Cole Hamels. Once Hamels found his groove, the Reds were in trouble.
That first inning for Cole looked like a whole lot of trouble. In the middle of a downpour, Cole gave up two singles...
This was by far my favorite player head shot from 90s night, Wednesday night. More pics via CrossingBroad.com HERE
Ps. What ever happened to the Full House girls?
The Phanatic on "Baywatch," Jimmy Rollins as Will Smith in the "Fresh Prince of Bel Air," Juan Pierre as Bill Cosby, and Chase Utley as Dylan from "90210." Doesn't get much better than that.
PHILADELPHIA (AP) -- Zack Cozart hit a tiebreaking homer on Jonathan Papelbon's first pitch in the ninth and the Cincinnati Reds beat the Phillies 5-4 Tuesday night to snap a seven-game losing streak against Philadelphia.
Kevin Frandsen hit a tying RBI triple off Jonathan Broxton in the eighth, but the NL Central-leading Reds went up to stay on Cozart's shot off Papelbon...
Final: Reds 5, Phillies 4.
WP: Jonathan Broxton (3-3, 3.02 ERA) LP: Jonathan Papelbon (3-5, 2.86 ERA) SV: Aroldis Chapman (30)
In a roller-coaster battle of a game, similar to the first game of the series in which the Phillies ultimately prevailed, a ninth-inning home run by Zack Cozart off of Jonathan Papelbon would prove to be the winning run for the Cincinnati Reds.
Washington Nationals (77-47) at Philadelphia Phillies (58-67)
Edwin Jackson (7-8, 3.69) vs. Kyle Kendrick (6-9, 4.20)
Time: 7:05, Citizens Bank Park
Weather: Mostly Cloudy, 80

The Nationals were expected to be an up and coming team. They were expected to be much improved, but I don’t think anybody expected them to have the best record in...
Despite being separated by 19 1/2 games in the standings, the Washington Nationals have had some trouble beating the Philadelphia Phillies.
The NL East leaders, however, have yet to face them with the core of their lineup intact. That will change this weekend.
The Nationals look to exact some revenge against the only team to take a series from them since the All-Star break as they...
