According to Jorge Sedano of 790 AM ‘The Ticket’ in Miami, a source has informed him that signing Jose Reyes is almost a done deal for the Miami Marlins:

Marlins returned from Cespedes workout. Source tells me Reyes "almost a done deal." Team also inquiring about A's Gio Gonzalez availability. about 13 hours ago via Twitter for iPhoneReplyRetweetFavorite @SedanoShow Jorge Sedano

Well, happy Friday morning to you too!

Sedano is the host of his own sports talk radio show and definitely seems like someone who is in touch enough to make a report like this sting.  Whether or not you want to put any stock into this or the number of rumors that are sure to follow is your decision, but as I said yesterday, after seeing the video of Reyes taking the tour of the Marlins new stadium and hearing his comments about the visit, I felt like he was half way out the door.

Then again, I’ve felt that way for a couple weeks now and I’ve long felt that Miami makes sense because they are trying to not just build a team but make an impact with a new fan base.

Hanley Ramirez, who currently plays short for the Fish, offered his support for signing Reyes yesterday:

The team also met for several hours with Yoenis Cespedes on Thursday and came away impressed, according to Joe Frisaro of MLB.com.

The outfielder, who is regarded as five-tool-caliber player, then spoke with a contingent of Marlins representatives that included team owner Jeffrey Loria, team president David Samson, manager Ozzie Guillen, hitting coach Eduardo Perez, president of baseball operations Larry Beinfest, general manager Michael Hill and Albert Gonzalez, the team’s director of international operations.

“We think we’re a great fit because we’re Miami, and we’re a natural destination for any Cuban player, any Latin player,” Samson said on Thursday night. “We are the Gateway to the Americas. We’re the Miami Marlins. I think that he agrees, but we have to make a deal that makes sense for both parties.

Then of course there’s the icing on the cake, which is the news that Miami has also scheduled a meeting with Albert Pujols for this coming weekend:

Meanwhile, back in New York, the Mets are scheduled to …… ummmmm, well I mean rumor has it the team is going to bring in ….. uhhhhh.  I got nothing.
