Slowey takes Nolasco's spot Monday against Braves

Associated Press  |  Last updated July 07, 2013
Kevin Slowey will take Ricky Nolasco's spot in the Miami Marlins rotation Monday against the Braves, a day after the pitcher was traded to the Los Angeles Dodgers. Manager Mike Redmond said the team anticipated the trade and kept Slowey available. The right-hander is 3-6 with a 4.24 ERA and last worked in relief on July 2. He's made 13 starts, the last on June 12. ''As of right now, we'll plan on this start Monday,'' Redmond said. ''And then we'll figure it out there.'' Redmond said the Marlins would miss Nolasco, but noted the pitcher was going where he wanted. The 30-year-old Nolasco was born in suburban Los Angeles and was 5-8 with a 3.85 in 18 starts for the Marlins. ''I think we all knew this was going to happen and I think it's good for Ricky,'' Redmond said. ''I got a chance to say goodbye to him. He's a good guy, a true professional, and we hope he goes out and does well - just not against us. The Dodgers sent minor league pitchers Steven Ames, Josh Wall and Angel Sanchez to Miami, and received international signing bonus slot No. 96 valued at $197,000. Nolasco is making $11.5 million this season and will be a free agent after the season. Slowey, 29, becomes the senior member of an otherwise very youthful rotation led by 20-year-old All-Star Jose Fernandez, Henderson Alvarez (23), Jacob Turner (22) and Nathan Eovaldi (23).
