Things are clearly going right for the Chicago White Sox when they explode for a 12-5 win over the Minnesota Twins on a day when captain Paul Konerko is on the bench, getting a mental break. Konerko went 0-for-3 in Tuesday's game, extending his slump to 1-for-20, but he took something out of that evening that he thinks will carry forward with the Sox beginning a huge series with the New York Yankees on Thursday. "Actually I feel good," Konerko said to the Chicago Sun-Times before the game. "But right now, offensively we're not scoring a lot of runs, so it's a good idea to shake things up. And New York is always a long four games, so it's a good idea." Manager Robin Ventura also used the day game after a night game in almost 100-degree heat to rest Gordon Beckham and Dayan Viciedo, but the focus was on Konerko, who missed a few games three weeks ago when a bone fragment had to be pulled free of a nerve in his left wrist. "The last two ...

Youkilis trade causes stir at presidential level

Kevin Youkilis went 1-for-4 in his second game with the Chicago White Sox on Tuesday, but this time in a 3-2 win over the Twins at Minnesota thanks to Gavin Floyd's seven scoreless innings. However, Youkilis still couldn't escape the national spotlight. This time it was presidential. Youkilis heard the news that a flap resulted when President Obama, a White Sox fan, made...

Chicago White Sox: Strong offense supports Sale

It could be their confidence in Chris Sale or it could be the 12 o’clock start time. Whatever it was, something had the Chicago White Sox bats on fire in today’s rubber matchup against the Minnesota Twins. The White Sox recorded a season high 21 hits as they rolled over the Twins 12-4. Sale was his usual dominant self. The AL leader in ERA went seven innings, allowing two runs...

Photos: Kevin Youkilis’ White Sox Debut

In the biggest trade so far during the 2012 Major League Baseball season the Boston Red Sox sent their former face of the franchise, Kevin Youkilis, to the Chicago White Sox for pitching prospect Zach Stewart and utility player Brent Lillibridge. Youkilis got out to a rough start for the Red Sox and had to miss 22 straight games due to injury. This, couple with the fact that his...

Outfielder Kosuke Fukudome has been released by the Chicago White Sox today the team announced. Fukudome was designated for assignment last week. White Sox Misspell "Youkilis" On Lineup Card

Kevin Youkilis didn't have exactly the best of debuts with the White Sox last night, going 1-4 in a loss to the Minnesota Twins. The lineup card at the beginning of the game should have been an omen. The White Sox spelled Kevin Youkilis' last name as "Youklis". The White Sox however got the name on his jersey correct and even got his old number 20 back from outfielder...

Mambino Mondays | Who Needed Youkilis?

Our friend Blake from The Great Mambino blog wrote his weekly blurb on fantasy and baseball in general. Here's what he wrote: In the move that everyone saw coming, the Boston Red Sox finally traded Kevin Youkilis on Sunday. After rumors flew around fast and furious like a CC Sabathia batting practice, GM Ben Cherington shipped his third baseman to the Chicago White Sox for...

White Sox rally to beat Yankees

Addison Reed knew Yankee Stadium's reputation for swallowing up easy flys for home runs. He also knew Derek Jeter had a knack for coming through in the clutch. So when Jeter sent a sharp liner to right field, the White Sox closer hoped the ball would stay in the park and that Alex Rios would have space to make the catch. Rios did, with no room to spare. Rios banged into the...

White Sox 4, Yankees 3

Dayan Viciedo hit a three-run homer off David Robertson in the ninth inning after a throwing error, and the Chicago White Sox rallied past the New York Yankees 4-3 Thursday night. Reliever Clay Rapada's wild toss to second base on a potential double-play ball set up the AL Central-leading White Sox. With closer Rafael Soriano not available after pitching the past two games...

What’s on my mind: World Baseball Classic and Guillen Number

The other day, as I was watching Euro 2012, I remembered that in 2013 we're going to have the third edition of the World Baseball Classic. For me, the WBC is just another excuse to watch baseball, and even though it has been highly criticized I have to say that I love what it stands for. I mean, the FIFA World Cup is one of the biggest sports events in the world, and even though...

So, the White Sox ‘Beer Vendor’ Bobblehead looks a lot like …

On August 4th, the first 20,000 fans 21 or over to arrive at U.S. Cellular Field for the White Sox-Angels game will receive a Beer Vendor Bobblehead. Below is a picture of said Beer Vendor Bobblehead, which I think looks a lot like someone in particular. Who does it look like to you?   My first thought when I saw the picture, emailed to me by our very own baseball lover Ari Kaufman...

Mitt Romney Criticizes President Barack Obama for Kevin Youkilis Comments

Mitt Romney's campaign has found an opportunity to try to swing a few votes away from President Barack Obama in Massachusetts. Obama thanked the city of Boston at a fundraiser on Sunday for trading Kevin Youkilis to the White Sox, his favorite team. His mild-mannered joke didn't go over well and was met with booing. Romney's campaign, in turn, criticized Obama for the...

Kevin Youkilis' Transcendent Work Ethic Will Be Lasting Memory of His Time in Boston (Podcast)

When Kevin Youkilis first came on the scene in Boston, he didn't look like a whole heck of a lot. What Red Sox fans quickly learned, however, was that there was more to this third baseman than met the eye -- a fitting distinction for someone who would be come to known for his eye at the plate. Youkilis somehow found a way to make it work on the diamond, and he somehow found a...

Sox 67

Two important wins in June 67 seemed to propel the team forward. The first was a walkoff two-run homer by Tony Conigliaro in the eleventh inning at Fenway to defeat the White Sox 2-1. Chicago had broken open a scoreless game in the top half on a Ken Berry single to plate rookie Walt Williams. In one of the most exciting moments in Tony's all-too-short career, he stepped to the...

White Sox 14, Yankees 7

A.J. Pierzynski homered twice, Paul Konerko and Alexei Ramirez also connected and the Chicago White Sox pounded the Yankees so hard that New York brought in outfielder Dewayne Wise to pitch in a 14-7 romp Friday night. A night after the White Sox rallied to win at Yankee Stadium on Dayan Viciedo's three-run homer in the ninth, they made it a short and sour major league debut...
