Rafael Soriano threw a scoreless inning of relief in his debut with Washington and the Nationals beat the Houston Astros 7-1 Tuesday. Soriano signed a two-year, $28 million contract in January to become the Nationals new closer. The right-hander faced three batters in the seventh and struck out one. Houston's J.D. Martinez reached base against Soriano, but pinch-runner Brandon Barnes was thrown out trying to steal. Danny Espinosa had two hits and two RBIs for Washington. Chad Tracy also drove in two runs. Dan Haren gave up a run in three innings in his second spring start.

Pitcher Will Ohman got cut by the Nationals in the middle of a spring training game

Will Ohman has pitched in the majors for 10 years so he knows how things work in spring training. But we’re not quite sure that even he was ready for what happened to him on Sunday. Ohman pitched in the sixth inning of the National’s Grapefruit game against the Cardinals on Sunday where he gave up two hits and two walks. Afterwards, Ohman was informed that he would be cut and...

Nationals Will Ohman Cut during Game

Major League Baseball is a cut-throat business apparently. Nationals pitcher Will Ohman had just pitched the sixth inning in spring training against the St. Louis Cardinals when he was delivered some bad news. He had been cut. Before the game had even ended. “Will Ohman, who pitched the sixth inning today, was cut before the game ended. Tough day at the office.” – @AdamKilgoreWP...

Rendon, Strasburg Shine In Loss To Philadelphia Phillies

Anthony Rendon has said he wants this Spring Training to be one the Washington Nationals management will remember.  It's working. In today's Spring Training game against the Philadelphia Phillies, Rendon hit his third home run of the spring to the opposite field. In 20 at-bats, Rendon is hitting .400, with eight hits, three homers, three doubles and eight RBIs. Make...

Phillies 6, Nationals 3

Roy Halladay outpitched Stephen Strasburg in a marquee matchup that became a bit testy as the Philadelphia Phillies beat the Washington Nationals 6-3 Wednesday. With one out and runners on the corners in the third inning, Washington's Strasburg hit Chase Utley in the lower left leg with a pitch. After getting two quick outs in the fourth, the Phillies' Halladay threw a pitch...

Phillies and Nationals exchange some beanball pleasantries

So it’s only March, but the NL East division title race may have already began.  It’s always trouble in spring training when teams are a little too familiar with each other and face off in an exhibition.  Mix in two hard-throwing aces and some other star players being hit by pitches, and you get what happened today. An inning after Stephen Strasburg plucked Chase Utley (who...

Roy Halladay Takes On Stephen Strasburg In Rare Phillies-Nationals Spring Duel

Despite being regular opponents during the regular season, the Phillies and Nationals hardly play each other in the Spring. With Nationals camp located 149 miles away in Viera, FL, the bus ride is long. The Phillies tend to play local opponents such as the Blue Jays, Yankees, Orioles, Pirates, and...
