Following a night of late heroics from Jonny Gomes, the Red Sox could not quite finish off the Rays for a clean series sweep, as the Rays ended up on top 6-2. I must say...I was pretty impressed with the turnout at Fenway Park tonight. That was easily a 30,000-plus night of attendace, which is surprising when the Bruins are down the street in the Stanley Cup Finals. Not bad Red Sox Nation...Not bad at all. Ryan Dempster has been better as of late, coming off a productive outing in Baltimore. However he got off to somewhat of a rough start, allowing three hits and two earned runs (including a solo shot to Desmond Jennings). He settled down for few frames until the fifth inning, where he allowed a leadoff single to Jose Molina and a two-out RBI single to Ben Zobrist to make it 3-2 Rays. Dempster finished the night throwing six-innings allowing eight hits, three earned runs, and two walks, while punching out three Rays. He ended the night at 108 pitches. Gomes continued his recent hot streak, providing both runs for the Sox offense tonight. Both were infield singles, but hey...an RBI is an RBI, right?  In his last five games played, Gomes is 5 of 17 (.294) with 2 HR and 5 RBI. Look for the Sox to ride out his hot bat while Mike Carp continues to rest his sore hammy. Craig Brewslow kind of threw up on himself, allowing three runs in the 7th-inning alone and thus putting the game out of reach with the Rays adding to their lead 6-2. The Sox hit the road to take on the Tigers in Detroit for a pretty big four game series. Besides Texas, this could be this team's biggest test of the season. John Lackey takes the mound for the Sox, as the Tigers counter with Jose Alvarez. First pitch is at 7:08pm. Boxscore
