The Red Sox took the mound hoping to avoid being swept by the O's, however that is just what ended up happening.  Zach Stewart took the mound for the Sox and while he wasn't as dreadful as he was in his first outing, he still didn't make it out of the 3rd inning.  The Sox weren't able to rally back and fell once again to the O's.

Zach Stewart got the spot start as we are heading into the final few games of the season.  Stewart started the game by giving up a leadoff HR to McLouth.  Stewart then loaded the bases without recording an out.  Matt Wieters hit into a double play to score the O's second run of the inning, but it happily gave us two outs.  Jim Thome hit an RBI single to score the 3rd run of the inning for the O's.  Sox 0-3.  Stewart pitched a scoreless 2nd inning, but then once again found trouble in the 3rd.  Stewart gave up another leadoff HR, this time to JJ Hardy.  Stewart gave up an RBI single to have the O's leading 5-0.  Bobby V went out to get him and then Clayton Mortensen took the mound to try and stop the bleeding.  Mortensen got the out we needed to get out of the inning.

The Red Sox finally got on the scoreboard in the top of the 4th inning when Cody Ross hit a leadoff HR.  Sox 1-5.  However, the O's would get that run right back in the bottom of the 5th when Chris Davis hit a leadoff HR off of Clayton Mortensen.  Mortensen would stay on the mound until the 7th inning.  He gave up a single run, but I'd still stay he did a good job and didn't let a bad outing get any worse.  In the bottom of the 6th, Daniel Nava hit his 5th HR of the season to bring the Sox within 3 runs.  Sox 3-6. Chris Carpenter pitched a scoreless 7th inning and then Padilla pitched a scoreless 8th inning.  The Sox were not able to rally in the 9th against the O's closer Jim Johnson.  Johnson pitched a scoreless inning and got his 50th save of the season.

The Red Sox were able to help the O's keep pace with the Yankees and stay tied a top the AL East.  The Sox head off to play the Yankees while the the O's head off to play the Rays.  Personally, I'd love to see the O's over take the Yanks and win the AL East.  We sure did everything we could to help them towards that goal this weekend.

Red Sox 3 Orioles 6 BOXSCORE
