The Red Sox sent Aaron Cook to the mound in place of Josh Beckett who was traded to the Dodgers earlier in the day.  Cook was coming off 3 days rest and hoping to have a better outing than his last performance. Cook looked shaky in the 1st inning allowing the first 3 batters to reach and 3 runs to score.  Cook was able to get out of that with no more damage and give the offense a chance.  In the bottom of the 2nd, Gomez hit his 1st major league HR to get the Sox on the board.  Salty and Lavarnway then hit singles and were brought home by Mike Aviles hitting his 13th HR of the season.  Sox 4-3.  Gomez kept the hitting going in the 3rd when he hit a 2 run RBI to score Pedey and Ells.  Salty hit a sac fly to score the 3rd run of the inning.  Sox 7-3.  The Sox added two more runs in the 4th with RBI singles from Ross and Gomez.  Sox 9-3.  This game seemed clearly in hand and Cook was keeping them in the game.  Cook pitched 6 strong inning and left the mound in line for a win.  Andrew ...

UPDATE: Beckett also claimed by Dodgers.

I just said that it would be a dream scenario for the Dodgers to take Josh Beckett alongside Adrian Gonzalez in any sort of trade.  Well, Sean McAdam just confirmed that the dream could become a reality. Beckett has also been claimed by the Dodgers off of the waiver wire. Disgruntled Sox fans can already be heard celebrating but before we continue this fiesta, let's remember...

Josh Beckett's Legacy Will Be Remembered as Poster Boy for Great Success, Great Failures

BOSTON -- For seven years, Josh Beckett was a polarizing figure in Boston. Over that period, the right-handed pitcher was the poster boy for the peaks and valleys the Red Sox experienced. When the team was at the pinnacle of the baseball world in 2007, Beckett was heralded for his feats and showered with praise for posting a 4-0 record and 1.20 ERA in four playoff starts. When the...
LET'S MAKE A DEAL

Sox, Dodgers close to blockbuster?

The Red Sox and Dodgers are reportedly nearing a deal that would send three big names from Boston to L.A., including first baseman Adrian Gonzalez.

Signs Point to Red Sox and Dodgers Working on Major Deal

The fact that the Dodgers claimed Adrian Gonzalez off of trade waivers is not that big of a deal.  The Sox were likely just seeing what teams might be interested before pulling him back.  The fact that the Dodgers also claimed Josh Beckett is big news.  This has to signal a package deal with Gonzo and Beckett heading to LA.  It is very unlikely that the Dodgers would take Beckett...

Gonzalez and Beckett Claimed By L.A.

It now rests in the hands of Red Sox upper management where two of their star players will ultimately end up. According to a report from ESPN ScoreCenter, both first baseman Adrian Gonzalez and pitcher Josh Beckett were claimed off waivers by the Los Angeles Dodgers, leaving the Sox to either trade them, allow them to leave, or retain them. They are also apparently trying to shop...

Daisuke Matsuzaka Set to Pitch Monday in Place of Josh Beckett (Video)

On Saturday, in the wake of the Red Sox' mega-trade with the Los Angeles Dodgers, Boston made a number of corresponding roster moves to fill out its bench. Though he won't be added to the roster until Monday, count Daisuke Matsuzaka among those who will be given a chance with four players having been jetisoned to L.A. Matsuzaka is slated to start in place of Josh Beckett...

Impact: The Boston/LA Mega Deal Pt.1

Yes, it’s been a while since our last post here. Real world things come up with jobs and family, etc. Working for a minor league baseball team means some long hours during home stands and the need to spend more time with family when the team is on the road. That being said, we’ll be back in full force this offseason, and periodically until then. The Red Sox and Dodgers have...

Dodgers win waiver claims for Adrian Gonzalez and Josh Beckett

The Los Angeles Dodgers quest to solidify a playoff spot continues, as the team has placed (and won) a waivers claim for 1B Adrian Gonzalez and starting pitcher Josh Beckett, both current disgruntled members of the Boston Red Sox. By claiming the two players, the Dodgers can open up trade talks with the Red Sox [...]

Saturday Red Sox Mediocrity - 8/25

After rallying for a 4-3 win last night, the Boston Red Sox look for a second straight win in the second game of a four-game set with the Kansas City Royals at historic Fenway Park. First pitch is scheduled for 7:10 p.m. and the game will be broadcast on NESN in the Red Sox television market. If you live in the Royals television market, you can catch the game on Fox Sports Kansas...

Dodgers, Red Sox talking about salary clearing blockbuster

When news broke earlier this afternoon about the Dodgers submitting a waiver claim on Adrian Gonzalez, I didn't flinch. I raised an eyebrow when I heard they also claimed Josh Beckett, and when ESPNBoston's Gordon Edes reported that a deal that would send Gonzalez, Beckett, Carl Crawford, and Nick Punto to the Dodgers was being talked about...well, hell broke loose...

Dodgers Going All Steinbrenner

The beer is on tap T The Los Angeles Dodgers don’t care what it costs, they are going all in. Here is Josh Beckett, Alex Gonzalez and Nick Punto flying to LA. I’m not a Dodgers fan but this team has done a 180 since the Frank McCourt days.-TO Lackey Double-Fisting Beers Bobby V Walking Through Chicago Rapping

Proposed deal signals chance of direction for Red Sox

Holy cow. A regular old day of playing out the string quickly turned into something astounding when news broke of the proposed nine-player megadeal that would send more than $270 million worth of Red Sox -- Adrian Gonzalez, Carl Crawford, Josh Beckett and Nick Punto -- to Los Angeles for first baseman James Loney and four prospects. The deal won't be complete until at least...

Goodbye Gonzo, Bye Bye Beckett, See Ya Crawford

By: Nicholas Beardi [caption id="attachment_61" align="aligncenter" width="400"] The Red Sox traded away stars Adrian Gonzalez, Carl Crawford and Josh Beckett to the L.A. Dodgers, shedding a quarter billion in salary.[/caption] The mighty Red Sox had to do something for God's sake. To say they've been a disappointment this season would...

Dodgers and Red Sox working on Gonzalez, Beckett, Crawford deal

Remember — It’s Not A Salary Dump If the Red Sox Do It

Over the weekend, the Red Sox and the Dodgers completed the most expensive trade in baseball history as the Red Sox shipped Adrian Gonzalez, Carl Crawford, Josh Beckett, and Nick Punto’s approximate $287M of future contracts to the Dodgers for 4 prospects and James Loney. The Red Sox are responsible for only $11M of that $287M (roughly 3.8% of the total) commitment.  In return...
